Electronica Returns Fair?

Post by k o star » Fri Mar 20, 2009 1:48 pm

At first I had accepted the reasons for the returns as pretty fair... However, upon re-reading the listing again, I had a sense that I was a little misled by it in contrast to what my Listener said.Hmmm, I just wanna get some opinions on what others might feel about this.I'm not saying I'm right, I just need some feedback...The listing:DANCE/ELECTRONICA ARTISTS in all current styles are sought after by the host of an established Radio Show highlighting outstanding Indie Artists in the U.S. This show has already featured dozens of TAXI artists and they've all enjoyed exposure to over 10 million listeners and really solid promotion on the company website - each artist typically gets thousands of new hits, just from being featured on this popular show. This show is the #1 CHR (Current Hit Radio) Radio Broadcast Network in Europe and Germany. The music must be from U.S.-based artists/bands who write and perform their own music and the material must be radio-ready and current. You must also have a full-length, completed CD project and an active website, in order to submit. This opportunity is fantastic for an artist trying to get invaluable radio promotion and far-reaching exposure. This show ONLY accepts submissions via TAXI. You'll want to make sure you have your completed CD ready to send if/when the company contacts you to be featured on the show. All recordings need to be Broadcast Quality. Please submit 1-3 songs online or per CD, include a great PHOTO and detailed BIO. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than March 5, 2009. TAXI #S090305ELThe Critique:Style: On target for this listingThese tracks are in the requested dance/electronica range.Overall Comments:Thank you for sharing these tracks with me, Kelvin. They're really exciting to listen to, with a lot of energy and movement. However, there could be a little less experimental feel to them for this particular listing--material needs to be radio-ready, and thus, at least a little bit commercial. These tracks could work for a listing without this kind of request. Good luck!Sound Quality: Well-recordedThese tracks are master quality.Main reason for return:The listing notes that "material must be radio-ready."Well the listing did say "ELECTRONICA ARTISTS in all current styles"I kinda feel "radio-friendly" would have been a more appropriate term to use...Everything else they're looking for... I already have... my full length cd, my website etc...I don't know... I could let it go & move forward, after all, it was a positive review...Would be nice to hear what other's feel abt this though...Any advice?-KelThe songs:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... am=trueAll feedback deeply appreciated..

After this submission, I did remix a new version of Shock the System, which I believe would have made the mark... being more radio-friendly..http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=true

But... since this listing only gets music from Taxi it'll be run again. For the "next time", I think if I were submitting to this listing, I'd spend an afternoon listening to what the "Electronica" channel was playing on my local cable station or something similar. We have Charter Cable and channels 900 and up are for various genres of music. To me, what's playing on those generic "electronica" stations or channels has to be pretty much what this listing is looking for. Since they're looking for artists that naturally follow that vein of music, you'd have to ask yourself if you'd fit in there with your natural writing style or if maybe it's just not a good fit between you and them. I don't know the answer to that but it's important to recognize where we're going to hit the target naturally and where we're not really fitting naturally.Me, I'm fine with orchestral, some electronica (CSI type stuff) and some ethnic stuff. Something like house/dance or something similar... I might be able to stretch and *maybe* get a forward but it wouldn't be a strong forward. I'd rather spend my time on listings where I know I'd get a strong forward with my natural writing style, no questions asked.Anyway, sometimes it's not so much about the music as maybe recognizing the listings that are or aren't our strong points. Easier said than done, takes time and all that. HTH,Dave
