'80s instrumental return
NEW LISTING ó 80's NEW WAVE INSTRUMENTALS a la Duran Duran, The Human League, Erasure, Depeche Mode, etc. are wanted by a very successful Production Music Library who has placements with ABC, CBS, NBC, WB, Disney, Discovery, Lifetime, Fox, USA, etc. (to name just a few). They want tracks that build and grow, with melodic and dynamic variation, for a variety of Film/TV placement opportunities -they need to quickly add to their catalog in this genre. You may consider editing down a full-length song in order to avoid long sections of repetition, since this company NEEDS to have tracks that are changing & building constantly. You can submit tracks that range between 1-4 minutes in length and be sure there are NO VOCALS -they'll be focused on the sound of the guitars/drums for this one (be sure they sound authentic and current!). They want material that sounds like it could be on the radio, but will only be interested in Instrumental versions for this listing. Broadcast quality is necessary, though excellent home recordings should be fine. Please submit 1-3 Instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS -NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI -and must be received no later than February 24, 2009.TAXI # Y090224NW"When Love Is Gone"http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... trueWasn't actually expecting to get a forward on this - the listing was pretty specifically looking for melodic and dynamic variation, and I know this didn't have it, but I had fun doing it anyway. But the return also said the recording wasn't broadcast quality. This came straight into my DAW from the line out on my keyboard, so I don't think there was any degradation of signal ... I was going for that all-synth '80s sound (and trust me, I lived it!).Any thoughts on what would make this "not broadcast quality?" Not being defensive here, just looking for edification.Kathleen

Re: '80s instrumental return
Hi Kathleen,I'm an eighties kid and I think you didn't quite hit the ala's with this. I think they really wanted something more new-wavish. This sounds more like music you would hear in 80's romantic comedy films. A lot of composers did stuff like this back then and in that vein it is quite good. The broadcast quality thing is a little off the mark I think. I can't really figure that one out. The mix sounds good and there is only a slight hint of a hum that may be a grounding issue with the keyboard. You can sort of hear it at the beginning and end of the song when there is no music.Best,Cisko

Re: '80s instrumental return
KathleenThe whole track sounded a little soft or quiet like you didn't get it mastered up close to 0db. While I like the track very much for your creativity it doesn't sound much like the examples given in the listing. Duran Duran had a bunch of hits, all of which contained a driving rock beat which I don't get from your tune. Your sounds are OK except for the Hip Hop sounding drums. Again, the examples all had real drummers bashing real drums. This a very good effort but not right for this listing.Keep writing!Keith
