Returns on Prolific Composer listing

Post by bigbluebarry » Tue Jan 27, 2009 8:46 am

Here's the listing:PROLIFIC COMPOSERS/PRODUCERS who can write and produce in a variety of styles are wanted by the President of an L.A. Music Library/Publisher who has signed and placed many TAXI writers/songs. This Publisher is looking for individuals who can consistently turn around a variety of excellent cues for Film/TV in a wide range of genres. If you are quite accomplished in only one genre, he will consider the possibility of working with someone who specializes in one particular style. His preference, however, would be to find someone who could produce/compose a variety of styles including Rock/Pop/Hip Hop/Electronica for various Film/TV opportunities. This Publisher has supplied content to shows such as Las Vegas, CSI, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, etc. and also secures prominent placements in Feature Film projects. Your location isn't necessary, as long as you have the experience and the ability to turn material around quickly - on time and on task. Please indicate your experience, credits and studio capabilities in your Bio and be sure to submit instrumental tracks or songs with vocals that display your varied abilities. Submit 2-3 songs/tracks online or per CD, include PHOTO/BIO. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than January 12, 2009. TAXI #Y090112TVI submitted the following three tracks:1) Won't Go Back Again - http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=true2) I Said Too Much - http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=true3) Our Place - http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... m=trueThey were returned with the following mini-critique:While your tracks are very accomplished, especially "Won't Go Back Again", I don't hear in your selections the "wide range of genres", which would be the listing party's preferenceI suppose I put too much hope in the "If you are quite accomplished in only one genre, he will consider the possibility of working with someone who specializes in one particular style" part of the listing.- Big Blue

This listing sure seems to be causing confusion. It states one thing but the screeners have a different understanding. You're not the first B. Maybe a call to Taxi might clear things up.Steve

Hey Blue.. yeah I see in the first line of listing "variety of styles".. stinks too because like the screener said you're production skills are up there with the best stuff on this forum!

Hey Blue-Is it possible your bio had an influence over the screener's decision? I know your work is excellent, but I don't know how many gigs you've landed or which of them you may have included in your bio. If you're only writing in one style then I imagine you'd have to have the deck stacked in every other area to get forwarded for this listing.André

Thanks Patrick and André... and you could be right on about the bio. Though I would hope that the quality of my work would have carried more weight than the amount of my credits. Oh well, not gonna deter me from keeping at it. Just motivates me to wanna get better to the point where the music is so excellent that they don't even wanna bother reading the bio. - Big Blue
