60s instrumental return

hi folks,it seems like lots of tracks for that 60s listing have been returned... anyhow, it's always good to learn so I throw in my return.why do you think it was returned?heres the song:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... eam=1..and heres' the listing:***1960s-style original INSTRUMENTALS (no vocals) are sought by the Owner of a Music Production Library for use in film/TV/commercials, etc. ALL GENRES associated with the decade of the 1960s will work: Folk, British Invasion Rock, Pop, Country, Jazz, Psychedelic Rock, Soul, etc, etc. Great, authentic-sounding performances are a must - he needs tracks that sound like they were lifted straight out of the 1960s. He needs tracks with button endings - no fade-outs. This production music veteran signed many TAXI writers to his previous company, and wants to repeat that same type of success with this venture as well. This company offers a standard exclusive deal. Great performances are essential. Broadcast quality needed [excellent home recordings are OK]. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI.****thanks,martin

Seems like this was very high bar.

After the very 60s Percy Sledge-ish, intro, it starts to sound more like the 1950s to me, with a loose 60s garage band feel that might be TOO authentic for a library that wants "great performances". Was the trumpet solo similar to a particular old song? A sax solo may have sounded more universal, although that may have made it sound more 50s.

Sounded more like 50's (late) to me too but other than that a great track.

Hi Martin-To me your piece had some sixties elements to it: the relaxed strumming guitars, the intro organ reminiscent of Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale," and the general "loose" feel of the instrumentation.I was also reminded of 50's soda pop rock by some of your changes (which were, probably intentionally, fairly straightforward).Consider this line in the listing:Quote:he needs tracks that sound like they were lifted straight out of the 1960sPerhaps the screener felt this piece was not specific enough in its genre. A pop or rock song (as the guitar and rhythm parts imply) would've contained vocals, and a jazz piece (as the horn melody implies) would've had much more complicated chord changes.Nice piece, though...and I know you worked hard to make it sound like you're a sloppy player! AndréPS - I REALLY dug your 70's piece that got forwarded a few weeks ago.

You had me scratching my had as to why it was returned until the trumpet came in.The first time through, the change at 1:00 threw me too, sounded a little too contemporary, but on a second listen not sure.Are the drums too up front and pronounced for that straight out of the 60s sound? Also, the guitar tone is right on the money, but could it have been a little less 'crisp' in the mix?Just guessing here...

Hi Martin,I think it was definitely the horn that did you in on this one.You have such excellent guitar skills that you would have fared better with a guitar melody similar to the one at the end going throughout the whole piece, or maybe some leslied organ melody for contrast.In any event it's a very good track.Best,Cisco

Hi Guitarero,I thought it had a 60's vibe...I can hear Percy Sledge ( When A Man Loves A Woman ) in the intro and the chord changes and tremolo guitar are similar to Crimson & Clover ( at least to my ears )...I thought the drums ( cymbals ) were a bit in front...But you might have done that purposely.Maybe it was the trumpet like alot of folks are saying here..Maybe the organ would have been cool for the melody of the tune ?Anyway there's my 2 cents, for what it's worth.Cheers , MG
