I think this screener just plain does not like me!

Post by jpenner » Wed Aug 08, 2007 3:54 pm

Ahhhh.... I have been thinking of posting about this for a while but have been hesitant because I did not want to come off the wrong way. I just got some listing results today and the issue was refreshed in my mind. I have been a taxi member for a little over a year and a half and have submitted close to 100 songs. My forward rate currently stands at about 70%... I know that I should have no reason to complain about this. However, of the 30% of the songs that have been returned almost half of them are from a single screener.80% of the submissions I have made that have been reviewed by this particular screener have been returned. It feels like every time I get a return, I look down and see that same number.... over and over again. It happened again today. So, I guess what I am getting at is this;Am I a total pre madonna if I request that this screener no longer reviews my submissions? I can't help but feel like I am throwing away $5 and missing an opportunity when my stuff ends up in his/her hands. I don't expect everyone to like my songs/voice/whatever, I just want to have the best chance for success (like I'm sure everyone here on taxi does!).What do all ya'll think about this?Have you experienced anything similar?Kisses,-Jess

Jessica, maybe this screener has more suggestions for you than the others. It would be interesting to know what they are. Out of 19/20 submissions, he/she has returned about 15 of them. If even half of those were critiqued, you could get a pretty good grasp of why this person is returning you more than his/her peers.Maybe there is something in it for you. A better reason than screener animosity can probably be found in the critiques.

My guess is that, as mentioned, it's a style or genre thing, but if not and a screener just doesn't "get" you, I would be surprised. It would be interesting to have some examples of actual listings and the submissions. I've actually started keeping a log of screener numbers for the same kind of comparisons, though I don't have near the numbers you do yet.If this is an issue with a particular screener, I bet that Taxi would not only like to know about it, but will also take care of it!Aubbtw--- did anything ever come of that "groundhog day" kid movie song you got forwarded for many moons ago? I keep expecting to hear you on the Disney Channel

Some very good points here, thank you everyone!I was looking at the listing this screener has screened and they range from pop-rock, modern-rock, alternative-rock, straight pop, and R&B-pop. So he/she gets around! The only negative remarks he/she has made have been about the need for more "musical' hooks (he/she says I have plenty of vocal and lyrical hooks and that everything else is very good). I can agree with this and have been incorporating more in my newer projects... Most of these submissions were Dispatch so I don't have a critique to look at.you guys inspired me to dig up the critiques and they are surprisingly positive. I just don't get forwarded at the end of them!!So here is the real question:if I am submitting older material for listings (songs I have submitted several times for several listings) and I know what the response will be from this particular screener then I am I really benefiting by having it screened by him/her again as the comments will be and have been the same? The same songs have been forwarded many times by other screeners, so I know that most people like them enough to send them through.Ahhh, I'm chuckling right now. This isn't tearing me up inside or anything! For Aub:You know, it's funny. It got forwarded and I didn't get a call or anything about it... BUT a couple months later I scored my first library deal with that song (outside of Taxi). I was pretty excited. And then a few weeks later four songs off of my last record "the casualties of casual" got picked up by a different library on the east coast. So, things are indeed happening... just not as a direct result of taxi... yet. Thanks again guys,Jess
