Re: TOP VIDEO GAME COMPOSERS
Haven't been here in a while, but thought I'd pitch in my two cents on this one. I just wanted to say that, as someone who does video game work, the best way you can approach this is to do something DIFFERENT than those other big named guys. I mean, the bottom line is, even if you put something out that's as good (or possibly even better, though at that level "better" is completely subjective as you won't find anything lacking in the quality of those guys' work) as guys like Inon or Sascha and Cris, there's not really any reason to take it on because those styles are already so well covered. The one exception may be if you're already getting a lot of work on your own with a similar style to those guys. But, like I said, if you do something different, something unique, then you could be giving yourself a real shot. Of course, it goes without saying that the quality has to be at the highest professional level, your attitude has to be pro, etc, etc. And I can't deny that getting representation is definitely made a bit easier if you're fortunate enough to have already done game work on your own. But anyway, that's what I would focus on.This looks like a great opportunity, though, so hit it hard guys!Hope that helps a bit,Dan

He already has some guys who do the electro/orchestral thing really well so it's obvious that a new unique slant on that or something completely different would be a better approach.I'm spending a lot of time thinking about this and mapping out a strategy before I turn on the computer. I want to be very clear how I am going to proceed. I'll probably spend a lot of time creating a sound palette that will surely include orchestral sounds but somehow in a fresh way as well as developing electronic sounds that are unique to my voice. I'm good at mimicking and re-interpreting what I hear, but this listing will demand a unique approach, not re-hashing what is already out there. It's a bigger risk, but he already said he doesn't need more of what he already has. Thanks for the sanity check!! And nice to see you back around here!!Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

No prob Mazz! Yeah, I didn't make it to the rally this year (I'm actually not a member anymore as I got too busy with other stuff to have time to work on listings), but that's definitely something that I know he stresses a lot. That's great that you're working to have a clear plan before you start writing. Just be yourself, write what you're good at, and I'm sure you'll do great!-Dan

Re: TOP VIDEO GAME COMPOSERS
I'm just going to jump into this testosterone-laden thread and say that I hope you can also be a human being to compete in the gaming market? You all make it sound fairly impossible. Ha ha ha. All wonderful info here - good luck to everyone! Georgie

GeorgieGeorgie,The composers and their agent who were at the Road Rally are the game equivalent of Hans Zimmer or Harry Gregson Williams for films. This opportunity is at almost the highest, if not the highest, level in game composing (games being a much larger industry than film by far). This makes the bar incredibly high for this listing and it might take a lot of effort for some of us to reach for that bar! Some chest thumping may be required as well!!

Re: TOP VIDEO GAME COMPOSERS
Yeah, definitely not trying to make it sound impossible (if it were I wouldn't be here!), just trying to share what little I know about how to realistically succeed in the video game market. On another note, Hans Zimmer actually is working on games himself these days (he did all the themes for "Modern Warfare 2" and his team created the rest in normal Remote Control Productions style), so now I guess he would actually be the Hans Zimmer of the game world...not to mention that Harry Gregson Williams is well known for his work on the "Metal Gear Solid" series, as well. I guess everyone just wants in on the party!
