Childrens Songs-instrumentals? Quick reply please!

Post by huss » Fri Nov 13, 2009 4:30 am

I originally posted this in the general hangout, but realised it was probably the wrong place..--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hi guys!I´m not sure if I´ve introduced myself here or not, but I´ve posted a few times on "Forwards" so maybe some of you´ve seen me before. Anyways, it´s nice to be onboard, and I definetly plan to be here for the long run as I´ve had a few forwards already and sort of gotten a taste for it I´ve noticed this forum is filled to the brim with nice and talented people, so I thought I´d come here for a little help with a listing. Maybe it´s just me missreading it, but anyway here it is:ORIGINAL CHILDREN'S SONGS - OF ALL STYLE AND GENRES - are needed immediately by a successful Music Publisher who's had tons of great Film/TV placements for many TAXI members. Songs must be originals - no covers please! All tempos welcome and creative, memorable lyrics are a must. Vocal and instrumental performances MUST be top-notch! They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal - you keep your original copyrights. Broadcast quality needed (great home recordings are fine). Please submit one to three songs and/or instrumentals online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, November 16, 2009. TAXI #Y091116CHSo my question is: Do they want instrumentals, but with lyrics included for a possible overdub, or do they want songs (with lyrics) AND instrumentals (no lyrics whatsoever)?Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just want to make sure before I send a bunch of instrumentals that get returned because I missread the listing.Thank´s in advance!

Hi Huss - At first read, I'd say they want songs with lyrics. The quickest way to resolve this issue is to just call taxi about it; this line "Please submit one to three songs and/or instrumentals online or per CD, include lyrics." makes it confusing, and Taxi is there to help clarify. 1-800-458-2111That way you won't have to submit something if its not on target.

Thank you Anne for the tip. I gave Taxi a call and the person I spoke to said it could be either songs or instrumentals. I hope he´s right cause I wrote five instrumentals for this listing.

My question is;How does an instrumental piece of music get classified as "Children's"?I can see it if it's a well known melody... but the listing states "no covers".IMO I wouldn't submit an instrumental for this listing.

Hey, I didn't know about the TAXI 1-800 number. Thanks! I think "children's music" might be characterized as having an "innocent" or "playful" tone. Also, your choice of voicing would be important. For example, if you play "Smoke on the Water" using a vibraphone and a flute, it might sound like a children's song. (Though I hope the kids wouldn't break out lighters at the end and ask for an encore.)

Did anyone get forwarded to this listing? I thought it was ok to submit instrumentals but they were returned for "no lyrics"... just curious to see what was forwarded.
