Pro Tools LE Only
I am sure we have all seen this listing as well as the others for various genre's. Maybe it is just me, but I am also sure there are many in taxi land who do not use Pro-Tools LE. Personally, even if I did, I would not want to hand over my midi data.We are a community of composers and artist's. We have all shared tips, tricks, and secrets to help aid one another. We have listened to each others material, given criticism, and pushed many to success. But I do not think any of us has gone as far as to post a project with midi data. There are some things we keep to ourselves. I dont know, but midi data is excruciatingly painful to give up."Fresh, current-sounding, RELAXING NEW AGE SONGS AND INSTRUMENTALS.... ....They also want original recordings from the composer, no samples from a synth or third party. They offer a negotiated fee between $500-$750 depending on the complexity of the composition and you retain 100% of your writer share. Very Important: You must use ProTools LE software, including all MIDI data, to record your songs, as that the format they need the songs to be delivered in (per their instructions). If you dont use ProTools LE, please do not submit to thislisting...."I know this is NOT Taxi's fault, just want to what others are thinking.Regards77www.taxi.com/lkeys(yes, I read your post Vikki, my name is on my page )

Re: Pro Tools LE Only
hey 77... hahah! Glad U posted this up... I was bottling up some feelings abt the requirements on these listings...The moment I saw the midi part... I said... forget it ^_^... and also because I have an unorthodox way of interacting my midi with my sounds, even if they had my midi data... it would be equivalent to gibberish in music language...I don't know abt others but I don't feel comfortable with the requirements for these... not blaming anyone but it's just my personal thing... it's such a shame cos lots of the musical styles they're looking for are pretty interesting to work on... oh well... Luckily there are plenty of other interesting new listings this month and I'm very Thankful for that =)Glad that I'm not the only one feeling this way abt these requirements too...-Kel

Re: Pro Tools LE Only
I just re-read those listings with the midi requirements and realized that there's a plus side to it...it says "They offer a negotiated fee between $500-$750 depending on the complexity of the composition and you retain 100% of your writer's share"I think they're paying upfront for those midi parts in the 500-750...and you retain 100% of you share... sounds kinda good though still not for me... just thought I'd shared what I interpreted from here...

Yeh, the $500-700 is a nice plus. Some instant gratification rather than waiting on your PRO checks. Those are nice too! Midi was the clincher for me 2...

Re: Pro Tools LE Only
I think you guys may be a little paranoid... No serious company with a track record would have time to sort thru your midi data and steal any "secret tricks" you may use in order to improve their own midi tracks...I'm sure the reason they want PT LE files rather than mixes is that this allows them to do custom stems and remixes according to their clients' specifications. The upside is, I've had several situations where a library I signed a song with years earlier has come back to me and requested a custom mix. These are often difficult and time consuming to pull off, especially if you've changed systems since doing the track (and you won't get paid extra or even be guaranteed that the song will be used). With this company, they would handle this sort of thing for you...which could ultimately save you considerable time and money.Yeah if you don't have PT LE or want to get it and transfer your data into it, you're out of luck, but c'est la vie...I don't use PT, but if I had time to submit to these listings I'd get PT LE and transfer my data into it...if my submissions were forwarded and an offer was on the table this would be a "hassle" I'd be happy to deal with.Just my 2 c...matto

Matto, thanks for clarifying! Would you say that this is a buy-out of the piece? Meaning it is exclusive use?--Mer

Yeah I wouldn't worry about them stealing your stuff. In reality, any 'tricks' you think you might have are probably things that most happening and successful producers already know. Probably like someone said, they just want the ability to chop stuff up and remix it. You can convert all your midi to audio anyway if you are so worried about someone stealing it.

Re: Pro Tools LE Only
Thank U Matto for the info here...A lotta my sounds are loaded on my own sampler whereby I loaded up with sounds and loops created earlier... so in reality a C note isn't really a C note... and an E might just be random noise... so I was confused abt why they would want that kinda midi info which wouldn't make sense on any synth or keyboard... but yes, Ur right Bobadohshe... I can always convert them all to audio...Just wondering cos I'm using M-Powered ProTools 8... Is that equivalent to ProTools LE?? or do I need to use MBox to save my sessions??Kel

Re: Pro Tools LE Only
If can send all audio....Seems they ask for total creation in LE. It says including all midi data. Not so much worried about secret midi tricks. Everybody pretty much knows everything. Just some things we (at least me and Kel) dont wanna share. Thanks for the insight Matto!77
