Pro Tools LE Only

Glad to see all the differing perspectives and feedback.Maybe I'll take a stab at these. Taking Big Blue's idea, I have access to pro-tools and have done an import job before. Complete nightmare if you dont have all your audio from 0.I found the midi very clumsy so I never really got into. I've seen PT 8 and it looks promising.Well, see what happens... 77

I've seen PT 8 and it looks promising.I think Keith would agree with me on this one, that it is NIGHT and DAY different working with MIDI in Pro Tools 8 than it is with any other version they've ever had, with the difference being that MIDI in version 8 is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much easier to work with.- Big Blue

agreed...PT8 has a nice improvement with MIDI....quite enjoyable!

I have to admit that I get disappointed when I get to the middle of a listing, and see it's one of the "Pro Tools LE" only listings. It seems like they really spread this one around too, breaking it into many listings over several genres.I appreciate some of the ideas that have been suggested here. My main objection to submitting to these listings (I don't own Pro Tools, but have daily access to it at work) wasn't that I don't want to give people my MIDI secrets (since I don't have any... ha ha!), it was just that I really dislike composing via MIDI in Pro Tools. Recording audio in PT is fine, but MIDI composing directly in Pro Tools is something I'd rather avoid. However I like the suggestion of recording using my usual software (Cubase!) and then just transferring it all to Pro Tools. Great idea! Thanks for that.

Which version of Pro Tools are you using?I upgraded to PT 8 and I gotta tell you, working with MIDI is SOOOOOO much easier than it used to be. I can't compare it with other DAW's since I've only really done it in PT. But version 8 is very nice and easy to work with, IMHO. - Big Blue

Sadly, I'm using version 7... And my employer is unlikely to update. : ( Glad to hear things are better in version 8 though!

I don't understand this at all. PT LE, isn't that a low budget program? LE - LITE? If you are a professional, you shouldn't use these versions in my opinion. And, if he wants the MIDI data, it means that you are limited to the built in plug-ins? They are usually no where near East West and so on. It says LE, so if you are using the full version of PT, you are out as well? Haven't read this thread too carefully, maybe someone else has already pointed this out?

I understand your logic Alex, however there are pros who use LE. I remember Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis recording part of a Janet Jackson album back when the 001 first came out. Ok, that was years ago, but there are pros who use the 003 and so forth.These sound like some pretty good listings, but I'm still on the fence. Will try for the less restrictive listings. I see some listings now that prohibit 3rd party samples. I guess that means no RMX either? How far are they going to take this? I guess next they will be asking for a live feed of you composing the track... Gotta laugh and keep working man.77

Hey Alexander,Pro Tools LE is most definitely NOT a low budget program, and depending upon which hardware interface you purchase, it's not cheap either. Yes, it doesn't have all of the capabilities that Pro Tools HD has, the primary one being the fact that LE has to rely on the internal CPU processing power of the machine it's installed on, whereas HD relies on other hardware to provide for the processing power. But to suggest that a professional shouldn't use Pro Tools LE, that's a little bit of stretch to me.I'm guessing you didn't mean it quite the way it came across to me. And I know I'm probably being a bit defensive as I'm a Pro Tools LE owner and while I may not have the high profile yet, I do consider myself a professional. About the MIDI data... I would imagine that they would want you to print the midi files to audio tracks, but also provide them with the actual midi data as well. I'm not certain, but I believe in Pro Tools HD, you can save a session as a Pro Tools LE session, but I'm not 100% about that. Regardless, I do know that I can open up an HD session within LE, just did it yesterday with a session I got from a studio out in California via Pro Tools DigiDelivery system.- Big Blue
