Classical Composers?
Anybody going for this listing: CLASSICAL COMPOSERS are wanted by the VP of an Independent Record Label who specializes in Classical, Jazz, Broadway, Ballet and Opera releases. They are looking for new talent to add to their catalog which already includes many internationally well-known artists and composers. You can submit either original or traditional/cover pieces that are in Public Domain only. Please submit two to three compositions online or per CD, include bio. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Tuesday, July 7, 2009. TAXI #Y090707INAny thoughts on what they might be looking for when they say Classical Composers? Since technically, they're all dead and they don't ask for "alas" do you think they're mainly looking for orchestral composers? Composers who have "serious" works in concert halls? What about cover pieces? A midi mock-up or something different from the original? I'm finding this one mind boggling. Any thoughts appreciated. Georgie

THe more harrowing screening sessions force me into accepting that most of my stuff is now regarded as Classical, even though I'm still alive.... I see no point in attempting to compete with covers of the back catalogue when there's the entire Berlin Philharmonic facing me. So that points me to original material. And that said, I haven't a clue so I've put up three totally different things covering a rather wide spectrum.http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.p ... timfatchen(sorry, still haven't understood how to get the song link working on the forum!)"Lost Beyond Recall" as small orchestral (been forwarded before)"The Coypu in the Millpond" impressionist piano on its last outing before I send in the Vermin Board"The Kitchen and the Sketcher" as a folkish outing for two orchestral harps, also a stringer.A bit of a shotgun approach is the best I can suggest. (But I shot myself in the foot by not realising I should also tick the "bio" box, which they want. Make sure you tick yours when submitting).

Re: Classical Composers?
Considering it says their looking for "new talent to add to their catalog which already includes many internationally well-known artists and composers"...I would say they are not likely to have Bach and Mozart "under contract" so my money says they are looking for composers of contemporary concert music. Which could range from Philip Glass or Steve Reich to Michael Tilson Thomas, it would be pretty wide open. I think the reason they say you can submit "PD covers" is that they'd probably also be interested in inventive new versions of music from the Classical repertoire. If I'm right then I'd say they type of ensemble or orchestration is wide open. Now remember this is just a guess, I would contact Taxi if you need more clarification.

Hi Matto, thanks for your thoughts on this. That does help to clarify things in my mind. Georgie
