Re: I don't understand
My guess you were not forwarded is that the listing is probably for George Strait so, the bar is going to be at the the absolute highest level (Jeff Steele, Craig Wiseman, etc). For an artist like this, all the A list writrers in Nashville are in line well ahead of us TAXI folks. That said, you have a really good foundation. I believe the verses need to be rewritten to more closely line up with the message and sentiment of the chorus. Try analyzing in comparison to "I Saw God Today" (George Strait track). The second verse told a story that I could "see". You need to re-write the 1 st verse so it does the same thing.....It's hard work BUT I think you can fashion a really fine song out of this.

I like your song...it has a good vibe to it....but you should shorten the verses and the choruses...they seem to go on for a bit to long and there for eliminating hooks...whitch are essential for this type of listing.but your on the right track just needs a little tweeking!

Hey, Jay.I'd love to see the critique you got back on this one. At 4:24 (if I remember correctly), it's definitely too long in it's current structure, and that's a shame 'cuz I think this is exquisite musically.

Re: I don't understand
It's a really fine song but as someone mentioned, a George Strait listing wants perfect, pitch-ready, radio-ready, guaranteed hit material. Every word, every line, everything perfect. If you watched the George Strait show on tv the other night, the man is a country legend. From what I could hear in verse 1, some of your lyric is a bit confusing right away. 4:24 is too long for a Strait song. Other than "I Saw God Today" he's a three-chord-and-the-truth kinda guy melodically. And there have been a few hit country songs over the past few years that come very close to what you have (ala Kenny Chesney "Don't Blink"). It may just be that the song is ahead of it's time or that there have been too many "life is short" songs lately. Sometimes it's the timing. Good luck with the song, though - it sounds really good and it's a fine take on the idea.Claire

When a listing says "a la GEORGE STRAIT" does this mean that the forwarded songs are going to George Strait or that they are just looking for that style ? I was thinking that meant in the style of.
Find something you love to do so much you will do it for free, and learn to do it so well they will pay you for it.

Jay . I love this song!thematically, musically, performance , production. and I am hard to please. personally I think you ought to release and market it yourself. I'd buy it 4 sure. don't give up on this one my friend. I was reading in a songwriters book that it took 7 years and endless rejections by other major artists before Faith Hill cut "breathe" and you know the rest of THAT story. You are closer than you think to getting a breakthrough . don't give up!!

Re: I don't understand
I think the "a la" listings actually mean the artist who is listed. I know people have asked that question before and I know there have been a lot of answers, and I don't remember what the answer was, but I think those listings mean the actual artist. Sometimes the wording in the listing makes it obvious that it is for that artist. I just always assumed that if only one artist is listed and it's an "a la" that means it's for that artist. Other listings that say "in the style of Keith Urban, Montgomery Gentry, Martina McBride..." just mean contemporary country.Claire
