Help me interpret this listing

Post by elser » Wed Apr 01, 2009 10:40 am

Hello to anyone interested,I'm just curious how you would interpret this listing; do they want an original version of the listed material or do they want a sound a like? What do you think?COVERS OF CLASSIC ROCK SONGS - VOCALS AND INSTRUMENTALS are needed by the Music Supervisor of a major cable TV series. They're looking for covers of songs that pay homage to classic artists such as The Beatles, the Kinks, Bob Dylan, Buffalo Springfield, the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, the Who, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Crosby Stills & Nash, Cream, etc. This series has utilized a few TAXI cover arrangements of popular songs from artists such as the ones referenced above before and they are looking for more now. Male or female vocals are OK and all tempos are finel. Excellent performances are absolutely essential. Broadcast quality needed - Great sounding home recordings are OK. Please submit one to three songs and/or instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received by Monday, April 20, 2009.TAXI #Y090420RK

They're one of a few that obligingly cater to us southpaws at a respectable price. http://www.rondomusic.com/wrl590left.htmlibanez468

I just thought of a good "modern" example:Hit Masters made a nearly exact cover of Kid Rock's "All Summer Long". It would be much cheaper to license the Hit Master's version than it would be to license the Kid Rock version. The Kid Rock version has way more vibe IMO, but for film and tv I would probably choose the Hit Masters version if my budget for music was tight.Best,CiskoBTW - it is so weird to have a cover of a song that basically covers two classic songs in the first place - talk about a clone of a clone.

This way they can license the cover version that sounds as close to the original as possible without having to pay the large license fee the original recording would command. That's my take.CiskoYep! Mine too! I couldn't have said it any better! Well...actually, I didn't, you did! ibanez468

My educated guess is they would comply. I hope my guess is correct. They did not fire the webmaster. There was an issue with the person who ran (only) the forum (not the taxi webmaster) who resigned after being "talked to" about a problem. And even if one doubts whether that was voluntary or not (I don't but I expect some do), to be fair, without knowing what the "slip up" was, it's hard to compare with this listing issue. The main point of my post is IF they gave conflicting answers to questions about the listing, they should do their best to rectify the situation. This was truly meant to be constructive criticism.Rumours about webmasters and whatever else are just that...rumours.I'm with you on that... And nothing wrong with constructive feedback as far as I'm concerned. I jumped in because I disagreed with some things that were said. But, I think addressing concerns about the level of listing detail is something better left for taxi to do. Best, Casey
