Crime Drama Question

Post by fusilierb » Thu Apr 16, 2009 12:38 pm

The listing basically reads:CRIME DRAMA INSTRUMENTALS in the style of the underscore for such dramas as CSI and 24, But it specifically says:He is looking for mysterious and suspenseful styles that "must have a contemporary rhythm section".What exactly does that mean, guitar, bass, drums?B

Check out the "a la" soundtracks. You'll hear Stylus-like stuff all over the place. My interpretation: Wants stuff that sounds like CSI and 24.Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

I don't watch either of these shows and watched like three episodes of 24 and a couple of CSI Miami and I couldn't hear anything with what I'd consider a contemporary rhythm section. So I was confused. I did hear lots of pulsating synths and ambient type drum rhythms over mystery kind of chords, so I'm guessing that's what they want. I'll keep watching. And man these two shows are over the top. I'm loving that CSI Miami guy. He's like Captain Kirk for the 21st century. Go get 'em red head guy!B

I think contemporary rhythm section means electronic beats (lots of Stylus is used in both shows) and electronic sounding instrumentation for the bass and synth parts (Nine Inch Nails type stuff with synths filling the role of guitars). At least that's my interpretation. You can find examples on iTunes. It's good to watch the shows to learn about the scoring but hearing the music uncovered is also educational.MazzPS: I too prefer the original CSI based in Las Vegas.
