Instrumental Listings -- Needed?
Is it just me or does it seem to anyone else that the TAXI instrumental listings have dried up? At this point all there is for instrumentals is covers of either some rock songs or classical composers. Beyond that I think I can write a Korean piece or a Ranchera track. I'm not sure what those should even sound like. Oh and I can try to reinvent the Hip Hop sound library...I look through the listings and all I see are SONGS(vocals), ARTISTS(vocals) & BANDS(vocals). I was doing pretty well in taking listings and writing a few things to submit for them. Now I'm without direction and have been throughout March. I can't sing and don't have access to a singer, I don't perform live and I'm not in a band. I just write and record instrumental music. Am I reading these listings incorrectly?I am thinking that I should contact TAXI about this as they don't really have anything that I can submit to. I just wonder if anyone else is in the same boat.Keith

Hey Keith, you're right that the instrumental listings have been a little sparse the last couple of listing cycles. I wouldn't be too concerned, this happens occasionally. Use the time to write pieces that you are lacking in your library.Steve

SteveThanks for the info. I'm pretty new to TAXI and don't know what to expect next from the listings. Sure I'll keep writing. I don't have a lot finished in my library at this point so in one way I'm directionless but in another way anything I do should be an improvement!Keith

That's what I especially like about the Taxi listings: it makes me productive. But I also realize that I have many holes in my library. So even if a deadline has passed it's good to work on pieces that will eventually come in handy to pull out of your repertoire when the opportunity presents itself.Good luck!Steve

I hear you Steve, I work the same way. However, since I've been a member for a while, I know that certain styles of music are asked for on a regular basis.Right now would be a good time to work up some Christmas instrumentals, as those listings will be coming up (last April's listings had 2 or 3 of these)There's always a call for 'high action' ' adreline pumping'There's often a call for "new's" style stuffalso "electronica/dance'.just some thoughts

There are definitely trends in the industry that you should be aware of and probably focus on; not to mention the seasonal cycles. Thanks for pointing out the *main* styles.Steve

Re: Instrumental Listings -- Needed?
Hi guys, yes I have noticed this is a slim-pickings month for instrumentals. About three months ago there were so many that I had to make an excel spreadsheet to make sure I didn't miss anything. But I've noticed that it goes in cycles. Good advice from everyone here - use the time to write something of your choice, or something that's lacking in your catalogue, or try something totally new!Georgie
