Some sort of new Taxi service??

Post by fusilierb » Tue Feb 03, 2009 9:47 am

I just got this in my email box:Dear Passenger,We have a listing hitting its deadline on Thursday that looks just right for the kind of material you normally send us:==========================================================================CLASSIC ROCK/SPORTS ROCK SONGS with a harder edge a la AC/DC, Guns N'Roses, Ozzy Osbourne, Led Zeppelin, etc. are needed by West Coast-based Music Publisher who typically supplies music to companies such as Muzak (tracks for retail shops, restaurants, malls, etc.) but also wants to find great material for TV projects, as he has prominent contacts in that world as well. He's asked us to be extra selective in what we forward - he wants quality over quantity - so your vocal and instrumental performances should be excellent. No profanity or uncleared samples. He offers numerous types of publishing deals. Broadcast quality material needed (excellent home recordings are OK). Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. AAll submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than than February 5, 2009. TAXI #Y090205RK========================================================================== Go to www.TAXImusic.com to log in and make your submission now. Please note that if the listing description is gray, rather than black, it is to indicate that you have already submitted material to this opportunity. You may submit additional tracks if you please. -The TAXI StaffI thought that was exceptionally cool and a fantastic idea by Taxi. Not sure how I got enrolled in this or how it even works. Anyone else getting these or know anything about them??B

I also got a couple of these today. I think because sometime in the past I have submitted music in these categories they think I'm qualified to submit again. Overall I do think it's a nice touch because maybe we miss a listing or two.Steve

Speaking of Amazon, I love their '1 click purchase', but it's too dangerous now that they sell musical instruments Maybe TAXI will start pulling tunes from our catelog with these mails and give us a '1 click submission' feature...

It's good to see them utilizing some new tech. There are many ways they could be using some newer tech to up their game. This message board alone needs some improvements. It's completely unintuitive to do basic linking to songs and streams, setting up avatars is unnecessarily complicated. It obviously works, but it would be nice to see it upgraded a bit here and there. But hey, the new listing reminder service kicks ass!B

Micheal Laskow told a bunch of us at the Taxi Rally that Taxi had hired a new tech company for Taxi's software development. Already there's been more changes in the last two months with the new tech people than there had been in years with the old tech people (who apparently had memorized the phrase "That's not really feasible..."). So out with the old and in with the new. The new guys rock. The board thing here... it's powered by a centralized "forum software/server" setup and completely outside of Taxi itself. If you go to www.proboards.com, you'll see a thing in the upper right called "Featured Boards". Going to any one of those gives a different look but you'll see the same features. So it's a centralized thing where anyone can set up a forum. The features are set but the look can be customized. I kind of agree too about the functionality of the board... it's more difficult than some to keep track of threads and navigate around. Hopefully Proboards will update their software sometime soon and then this board (all Proboard boards) will inherit that functionality.

Kudos to TAXI. Shall I tell you why? Because, at the Road Rally, Michael asked some forum members for some feedback on things they'd like to see. #1 was the mini-critique, which I am very happy with (as I'm sure everyone else is). And this was another suggestion by one of the "Dots" - some kind of reminder system. It would be great if we could access the listings on our own page and treat it like a database - indicate the ones we'd like to submit to and have a reminder email sent a few days before the deadline. But getting a reminder about the type of stuff we usually submit is pretty good too. Thanks Michael & TAXI!

Just checked out the proboards.com site Dave. There is a new upgrade coming out, with some neat new features. I'll poke around with their site more. Maybe there are other things it can do that we just don't have turned on. B
