Music Supervisor listings
Hey all, Just a quick question, can I submit a song that is signed to a library to a listing that is sent to a music supervisor? egPLAYFUL HIP HOP/POP INSTRUMENTALS AND BEATS in the range of Black Eyed Peas, Timbaland, Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, etc. are needed by the Music Supervisor for a reality dating show on a Major Music Network. These tracks need to have NO VOCALS and need to be upbeat, fun, playful and hipThe contracts specify they are exclusive, but I can deal with end users (music supervisors?) with the original compositions. Im assuming a music supervisor is an end user & there shouldn't be a problem with it? Just checkin cuz I don't want to screw anyone around. Thanks in advance,Sam.

Re: Music Supervisor listings
Hey Sam,I would not submit a song that you own the copyright to. The reason is simple. You can't make the deal. In other words let's say the supervisor says he wants to use your song and will pay you a sync fee of $500, but your music library won't make any deals under $1000. You can't say yes to his request and instead have to point him the direction of your publisher. Now let's say your publisher is not readily available to make the deal. The music supervisor is not gonna wait for long before moving on because he is almost always on a super tight deadline. You have now ticked off a music supervisor who may no longer deal with you or your publisher. And now you have a publisher mad at you as well. This exact thing has happened by the way.Hope this helps,Cisko

Thanks in advance,Sam.if you have an exclusive deal, you shouldn't be submitting that song to opportunities. The only exception I would make is if they were looking for composers or staff writers, in that case I would submit it as a sample of my work only.If you had a non-exclusive deal, then submitting directly to a music supervisor would be okay

Thanks in advance,Sam.Usually the "end users" would be consumers only...meaning people who buy your record or songs for their personal enjoyment.NOT people like music supervisors who use them as part of a commercial enterprise. So IMHO this is a no go...
