Exactly what goes in a "montage?"

Post by audiorayne » Sat Nov 15, 2008 7:58 pm

I'm thinking of submitting to this (very long) listing:RECORDING SESSION VOCALISTS FOR FILM/TV PLACEMENTS are needed urgently by a very successful music and sound design company whose clients include MGM, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Disney, WB Pictures, The Weinstein Co., Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, Vivendi Games, Pandemic Games, Mitsubishi and more. This company needs pro vocalists (male or female) that can sing in a variety of styles and approaches for various songs/cues for Film/TV placements. If you have access to a studio, can turn files around quickly and can deliver Pro Tools sessions, that will be a HUGE plus and a necessity if you live outside of the L.A. area. If you are in the Los Angeles area, the company would be willing to record your vocals in their studio if they feel your talents are a good fit for their needs. Your vocal submissions should show a cross-section of your stylistic abilities - they're looking for approaches similar to the following artists if you're a female vocalist: Rihanna, Beyonce, JoJo, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Leona Lewis, Pink, Christina Aguilera, Sara Bareilles, Colbie Caillat, Natasha Bedingfield, etc. If you’re a male vocalist, you can think in the stylistic range of Chris Brown, Usher, John Mayer, Daughtry, Coldplay, All American Rejects, Ryan Cabrerra, Jason Mraz, Maroon 5, Justin Timberlake, One Republic, etc. It's essential that you be willing to take direction and make minor revisions when needed. It's also necessary that you be able to complete projects on deadline, so please only submit if you have experience with this kind of work. When you submit, be sure to include material that reflects your versatility in approaching a variety of pop styles. The company would prefer that you submit montages of your work (not to exceed 5 minutes in length), in order for them to get a full picture of what your capabilities are. You can submit 1-3 montages online or per CD, include a photo and a DETAILED BIO that indicates your experience and studio access/abilities. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Noon PST on Monday, November 17, 2008. TAXI #D081117VO... but ...I'm not exactly sure what to put in a "montage." Do I have to have sung on a million songs (à la Darlene Koldenhoven) and mash together a bunch from one genre in one mp3, and a bunch from another genre in another mp3, etc, in order to submit to this listing? Or, could one montage just be an edit of a single song that jumps in at the vocals and/or highlights certain vocal sections of that same song? Guess I'm not really sure what the rules are when a listing requests a montage. Any advice will help!-AR

Hey Audiorayne,I believe that they're looking for several "clips" of different songs to be pieced together (probably with fades between songs) as one continuous clip. Maybe put together an .mp3 with your American Idol track, "Just Say Goodbye," "First Dream," and "Staring Out The Window."Hope that helps!- Big Blue
