Returned for Meditative listing...

Post by davewalton » Thu Oct 02, 2008 11:11 am

Hi,This got returned for the Meditative New Age Spa listing but it's still a cool track. This is from our own HoraceJesse. He did the original guitar harmonics, I added a few things here and there to dress it up.www.DaveWaltonMusic.com/PrivateArea/Pea ... mp3Thought I'd post it as a reference and contrast to others that did get forwarded. Also to showcase a musical side of HoraceJesse that we really never get to see. Cool stuff if you ask me. Enjoy!Dave

This is pretty cool guys...I really like it.And that's some serious low end at 0:30. (At least, I think so...my cheap headphones are barely picking it up...I guess spas aren't ready for standing waves in the mud pool....)

I had two songs returned for this listing. Curious to hear what may have been forwarded myself. Not sure what they were looking for... so I submitted a couple of pieces, but my stuff may not have been meditative enough.I researched how to add a link to my music with no luck... but my artist page is at http://www.taxi.com/lunaumbra The two songs are posted there if anyone would like to have an additional reference of a returned submission for this listing.Foglyte

Foglyte - Time Away gets meditative/ambient around 1:45 or so, but that's a long time to wait... after that section, the drums come back in and it looses that feel. I found the fluttering drums to be distracting from the amibience of the guitar. Not that you can't have drums in meditative music, but they tend to be more sparse, more of a gentle moving forward. One key you need understand for film/tv music is... you have to set the mood right off the top... I should listen to the first 10 or 15 secs and go, "yeah, this is meditative, peaceful". You do start that way (altho there's a bit of a buzz in the higher frequency)... but then drums & cymbals come in and it looses that feel immediately. To me this has more of a "light action" feel, but I think the percussion needs to be more electronic sounding for it to work effectively.March Muddle... feels like an acoustic guitar instrumental, has a nice texture, the flute adds nicely to it. Again I wouldn't consider this really meditative... it has more of a Celtic/folk feel.... and gets a little busy about 2 minutes in... and loses some cohesiveness... seems to go almost Spanish in style. So altho there are some ambient moments, the drums and the busy counterpoints seem to take it away from a meditative style. If you want to crack this genre, I'd listen to Enya (new age), some chanting, some Yanni - here's a linkhttp://www.imeem.com/ifankucel/music/QvHhQ5jb/ ... ion/You'll hear that there are melodic components, but the background tends to be soft (not much drums)... more sustained notes & strings. Even this I think might be too much for 'meditation' purposes, altho it's nice.

Thanks Hummingbird... I haven't had any "Taxi" feedback on my music yet (I'm a mew member and a non critique listing), so this is wonderful and appreciated. Yes the drums... I was slightly concerned that it may take this music somewhere else than what they may have been looking for, but I gave it a shot regardless Foglyte

That's how I do it too.
