Question about a listing

Post by melissag » Mon Aug 25, 2008 4:37 am

ORIGINAL SONGS RECORDED IN THE '50s or '60s IN ANY STYLE are needed by a Music Publisher who has signed and placed tons of TAXI songs in various Film/TV projects. Songs with vocals are preferable, but instrumentals are just fine too. The key to this listing is that they're wanting songs that were authentically recorded in the specified era, not just new material that is recorded with a that feel. They've requested that you include the date of the actual recording with your submission - you can do this by writing it as a lyric and attaching that information to your submission. If you submit by ground mail, you can simply provide a document that shows the recording date of the song(s). Any style is just fine, but the quality of the writing/songs and the sound of the recording need to be excellent. This is a broadcast quality listing - they will not re-record your song. Again, they're specifically looking for songs that are copyrighted and recorded in the 1950s or '60s. Many of their Film/TV clients ask for the "real deal", so there could be great placement opportunities here! Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received by September 11, 2008. TAXI # Y080911TVHere's my question...if I wanted to do a song for this listing, do you think it is best to try to "cover" the original as accurately as possible, as in, try to do a sound-a-like? Or would it be better to try to put my own stamp on it or try to make it sound more contemporary?

hey Melissa, they want songs that were actually written & recorded in the 50 & 60's. They want the actual copyright date to reflect what they're looking for, unless I'm misunderstanding this they don't want anyone recording something for the listing.

Oh! So, they are looking for people who have been doing this for awhile who have some old tunes they recorded 40 or 50 years ago? Wow! That's interesting...

Well, you can alway buy an unknown song from that era and print your name on it later. But it better be good so you get a forward with it!

Crazy to think you could have recorded any style of music in the 50's or 60's and get it published now! I should ask my GRANDPARENTS if they have anything

how do you "buy an unknown song...and print your name on it"? other than the possible copyright infringement, I'm there!and as for those of us who were alive in the 50s and 60s, young fella... Claire
