TEDDY THOMPSON SOUNDALIKE SONGS

Post by guest4254 » Thu Apr 10, 2008 8:39 am

specifically for his song "Separate Ways", are needed by an Independent Music Publisher who has tons of Film/TV placements. Your original song must be lyrically as close as possible to the above reference. Musically, the tone should be similar and the instrumentation shouldn't stray too far off the mark either. He's not looking for covers of this song, but original "soundalike" material. These types of listings I don't quite get either....they want you to sound almost exactly like the original without being the original??? Make the lyrics the same as the original, but different....Maybe take a karaoke version, add a guitar and redo the vocals...seems any way I look at it, I smell plagiarism.Has anyone successfully been forwarded to this sort of listing? I recall a similar one asking for a Bob Dylan soundalike. I'd really love to hear an example!Harry

Get over it, it's not remotely plagiarism, to write a new song in the same style as a song the lister was hoping to use. You probably need a singer that sounds like Teddy Thompson, and the kind of song he might have sung, that didn't make his last record. ie: Similar groove and similar chord progression, similar melody and similar singer. Someone's going to do this, and get the cut. Might as well be you...Using a Karaoke version would be quite illegal, but it might help you get started writing the idea.BillG has gotten a few forwards because his voice and singing (when he chooses to) are very similar to Dylan's Quote:These types of listings I don't quite get either....they want you to sound almost exactly like the original without being the original??? Get over it??? Easy does it dude! Maybe a smiley face would've helped show my sarcasm...obviously the whole idea of using karaoke would be illegal...oh, and you left out similar lyrics...just seems like you need a whole lot of similarities to a particular song/artist, and that just seems odd to me. I suppose if there was a listing for a similar song written by Lou Reed, it might just be up my alley. One can only hope. Harry
