Acoustic Guitar Instrumentals

Hey All,ACOUSTIC GUITAR INSTRUMENTALS with very simple arrangements are needed by an Academy Award-nominated Documentary Film Producer. She's not looking for elaborate instrumentation or accompanying tracks that get in the way of the acoustic guitar. A sparsely arranged, lush and poignant acoustic melody is what's really needed here. There is no style limitation, but mid tempo to ballad will be preferable. If you stripped the vocal from a David Gray song, you would be in the ballpark of what this producer is hoping to find. Broadcast quality and excellent performances are a must. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. I've listened to most of David Gray's stuff and I heard mostly piano in his tracks and a lot of up-tempo styled songs... I mean I've got some really slow finger picking tracks that I wouldn't mind laying down - do you think that'll be ok?I mean doesn't the listing give off the impression that you could record GCD slowly with a nice melodic guitar on top and forward it on?What's your take as I'm a wee bit confuddled..? I don't think the listing gives the impression GCD with a nice melody would get a forward. David Gray's stuff has some pretty slick production behind it, even if the arrangements are simple.To my ears, David Gray's signature sound is hip, upbeat mostly organic-sounding drum beats/loops, centered around either acoustic guitar or piano with some tasty synth ear candy.My guess is listen to "Dead in the Water" from A New Day at Midnight. Theres not a lot of intricate performances. Pretty simple parts, produced well, moves a little bit, is moody.I agree with you though that the listing is a bit confusing. That's probably because the producer of the film is a bit confused about how to actually say what she/he wants

I get David Gray's sound, but I listened to his stuff and most of it being upbeat, I hardly heard a song of his purely being acoustic guitar - as the listing says... Hey I-468, Just the chords G C and D or we could say Guitars, Congas and Drums .There's definately a lot happenin in DG's music, a lot of sonic pleasure - I aint saying his music is simple in terms of what is being played, meaning simple in the sound that's given off. I dunno... I'm totally confuddle....Do you think a nice finger-picked style might be alright? seeing as it says no style limitation?Take CareB

aim,Don't know if you're asking me or not, but I'd think that that would be appropriate. That's what I'm shootin' for as I can't imagine what more a documentary film producer would be looking for based on the description of the listing. I could be wrong though.I-468

Hi,David Gray has a waltz called "I tremble for you" on his Myspace page (done live so more pared back I guess).I think this could be the type of thing they are referring to.Good luck with it!Ruth

although the David Gray track "slow motion" is not very guitar-based..the feel of the song is just like its title..the way his vocal melody and the instruments go together seemvery creepingi hear allot of the beautifully sparse guitar stuff in indie. documentarys..which reminds me..has any one seen the doc. "confessions of a super hero"? great shoegaze/dreamish indie soundtrack!

Hey Geoff,I've now added a melodic guitar into the mix, do you think it fits or does it not help the track?I'm going to a recording studio tomorrow night and try and lay down the guitar track there as I'm struggling to get a good sound outta recording at home.Nah, haven't seen that documentary before, but sounds familiar like I may have but can't remember!Hey Ruth - thanks for the referal track!Take CareB

Hey everyone, glad someone asked about this listing, I've been wondering about it too...I'm wondering whether they're looking for full on "band" tracks - drums, bass, percussion, OR simply acoustic guitars... No way of knowing I guess. Good luck, should be interesting to see what everyone comes up with!Justin
