ORIGINAL FOLK/ROOTS SONGS a la Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Fink, etc. (with vocals -- no instrumentals) are needed by the Music Supervisor of a major cable TV series. It's a sophisticated comedy-drama about a Los Angeles writer who whose life is filled with raising his 13-year old daughter, trying to rekindle the relationship with his ex-girlfriend, and living the fast lane lifestyle (women, drugs, nightlife, celebrities). They're looking for songs that the main character would listen to while driving or selected at a jukebox. They do want to hear original songs, but the tone should reflect the referenced artists carefully. Lyrically, the content is open but no profanity please! Great performances are absolutely essential. Broadcast quality needed -- Great sounding home recordings are OK. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY -- NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than April 30, 2008.TAXI # Y080430FKI notice that all the referenced artists are male - do you think the supervisor would consider female vocals? A year ago I wrote a miserable folky "grown-up" break-up song but it's in demo form and I would need to work on it (for about 2 days) to get it ready.btw - for the first time ever I have a pretty good idea what show they are talking about (we got it free-to-air here in Australia) which made me really want to get a song into it - the pity is, except for this unfinished song, my music is totally unsuitable.

Re: Folk Songs
hey ruthr, I was wondering the same things myself. they say the "tone should reflect the referenced artists carefully". Is that the lyrical tone or the vocal tone?I would think that a female vocalist would put the song at a disadvantage, but it it's got the right vibe, would still have a shot.A call to TAXI is probably warranted here.
