80's-era ORIGINAL POP SONGS
I'm having some issues with this listing. There is nothing really specific mentioned about the lyrical content, or if that even matters. It almost hints that they want songs based on the events of 1984. Musically, it seems that anything from the 'new wave' era would be suitable but, then again, it could mean they only want knock-offs of the bands mentioned. I went through this on a previous listing, and I'm not overly keen on submitting something if it doesn't fit the listing. (Time & money that could be spent on other projects.) Also, the Tylenol scare happened in 1982, not 1984. And occurred is incorrectly spelled. (Not to be a stickler, but touché.)NEW LISTING -- 80's-era ORIGINAL POP SONGS needed by a veteran Commercial and Indie Film Producer, working on her independent feature film which largely revolves around the music of the 80's era and the specific events that occured in the year of 1984. Some of those events include Marvin Gaye's death, Michael Jackson phenomenon "Thriller", the Tylenol scare, etc. You think in the general and broad range from Duran Duran to Oingo Boingo, Tears For Fears to Madonna, Morissey to The Cure. She is looking for both the popular and the obscure sounds of the 80's music scene. Songs that are selected may be used as montage pieces or in feature moments, such as an on-screen radio show or TV commercial. Original material only. Broadcast quality needed -- great sounding home recordings are OK. Please submit two to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Feb. 27, 2008.TAXI # S080227PO

That's probably the most important thing to think about when submitting for a listing of this type. The words "general and broad range" were in the description so you know it's fairly wide-open as to 80's music. You probably don't have to sound like one of the artists mentioned, but my suggestion would be to go that route or something very recognizable as "a la" a known 80's act so there is no doubt you have an 80's piece. They do say more "obscure" is OK, but that's a tough one because how do you know how obscure you can go? That's why my take is stick with more commonly known 80's acts. Also, you could contact TAXI and ask for more information. Good luck! Casey

I'm gonna submit these two. Just Like YouFatally AttractiveThey were written for a local act, Loverboy, but they never even got thru the doors. That's life... They're definitely '80s pitches to me. "She is looking for both the popular and the obscure sounds of the 80's music," lead me to believe that, they're looking for the kinds of tunes in general, on the pop radio & charts, during the '80s. However, I have interpreted the listings incorrectly more often than not, so my opinions might not hold water. I would also believe as windowman suggests, that "new wave" stuff, sure looks like a great fit. Like Casey said, really. Quote:I'm having some issues with this listing. Re: 80's-era ORIGINAL POP SONGS
Thanks Casey & Steve- Nice stuff Steve. Good luck........I guess I'm frustrated that some of the listings aren't more specific when they expect the songwriters to be dead on with the submissions. Especially when there are historical events in the listing that are just plain wrong. I'm reworking a song that I wrote in the 80's which means a complete retake, from the lyrics to the recording. When I've been commissioned to do work directly from companies, at least there's the option to refine ideas & submit rough drafts until they're happy. It's hit or miss here & it would be nice, to say the least, if the listings were more precise. Who would I ask for at TAXI if I phoned to ask a question about this listing? Sebastian? Thanks again
