TAXI # S080123DBHi Vicky,I've only dabbled in this but I think that what's missing is what really anchors the drum n bass genre... the crazy fast drum beats. Quickly listening to the "ala's" it seems that the beat is the main focal point of the track and the experimental sounds are kind of a background to the ultra-fast drumming that somehow progresses and develops.I took a short section of your track and added what my ears hear as "drum n bass" or "jungle" beats and I think that something along this line would be much closer...www.DaveWaltonMusic.com/PrivateArea/Vic ... yer.mp3But... I'd like to hear any other opinions on this. I know there's more to this genre than just sticking in crazy beats.Dave

Hi Vicky,Dave pretty much nailed what's missing. His treatment is right in line with what DNB is all about. In DNB like most dance music the beat is the essential element in the style. If you Google Drum and Bass artists you will find a plethora of material out there to lead the way, but what Dave added under your track is a really good start.Best,Cisco

Re: eclectic DRUM 'N' BASS
Good points by Dave and Cisco.Remember there's a reason it's called DnB. All the other stuff is cool but it's just garnish. The meat and potato is in the usually very fast and heavily produced drums and the heavily produced bass line. The latter of which you actually have in there, it's just not really repetitive enough.I also think this is really an artist listing looking for people who have completed albums and therefore eat/live/breathe this style of music. So I'm not sure that it's the best place for you to spend your energy on...matto

So I'm not sure that it's the best place for you to spend your energy on...That's true. The only other thing is that is does come with a critique so if you're interested in breaking new ground and then getting a critique to see how you did, that might be reason enough to submit even if you're not planning on changing your name to Vicky The Drum n Bass Player or Vicky The Jungle Girl. One thing about the genre... I don't recall drum n bass appearing much at all, especially for music libraries and I've never specifically seen "Jungle" for anything that I can recall. So if you were going to polish up for the next drum n bass/jungle listing, it may be a while.

Re: eclectic DRUM 'N' BASS
thanks for the input.....i just doubled....and pitched shifted many drum tracks....I don't have time to post right now....it's true that I may not know tons about this genre, but the learning experience on the engineering side is priceless....and I would like to do something on the electronica side of things....I'm also working on solo piano for library listings.....my mind tells me I'm actually going to be able to do this well, once I'm more clear where I belong....genre-wise....It's actually ridiculous how long that electronica took me to do ...I could've written and recorded 10 piano pieces in that time....Thanks so much,Vicky

Before Taxi (waaayyy before Taxi) I've played various styles of music, mostly I really gravitated toward jazz fusion, anything from Weather Report to Chick Corea. When I first "discovered" electronica through the Taxi listings I thought... "Oh gee, how hard could THIS be?". That was four years ago and I'm still scratching my head.

Re: eclectic DRUM 'N' BASS
thanks...I added alot of drums.....I didn't go for the drums that Dave did, because my references had high pitched drum parts...I'm also surprised how much dynamic range is in the reference songs....I keep wanting to hard limit the final mix.....and I did, but it's unlike the references in that way...thanks for pointing me in the direction........I kind of like it, (but that's not what I'm trying to do here).....http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=1I'll probably submit it because there's a critique...thanks for the help....man it's fast...I might be able to submit it to HIGH OCTANE...if I cut the intro...Vicky
