Another one for the "High Octane" listing

Post by bigbluebarry » Tue Jan 22, 2008 5:01 am

I've got a couple of songs that I'm thinking of submitting for the "High Octane" listing. I'm relatively new to Taxi (joined about 3 weeks ago) and would appreciate any feedback you guys have on these two songs.#1 - Try This On For Size - http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... stream=1#2 - The Heart That Breaks - http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... anks,Barry

Hey Big Blue Barry,Welcome to taxi. Both are pretty cool fast paced tracks. The first one try this on for size seems a bit muddy and washed out. I think the cause of most of this is your rhythm guitar being way too loud in the mix. it drowns out a lot of things. The B section also seems to slow the track down a bit. Other than that it’s a cool track. The heart that breaks has the same kind of mix problem and unexpectedly cuts out at the end (might be something on my end but i would check it out. Another thing with this one is that it seems a bit monotonous; maybe adding in some interest grabbing things would help? Both are cool tracks though. Here are the ones I submitted.... though not rock or metal they are kind of techno/industrial/electronic things with a heavier vibe. Let me know what you think... beat me up, I like it rough These are ones I haven't really sat down and mixed yet they are just my raw sequencer out put. Beat them up anyway.High Octane 1 - Jan 20 2008High Octane 2 - Jan 21 2008www.taxi.com/matthewhawany one else got tracks they are submitting for the high octane listing? Don’t be shy!P.S. I can't wait for blueberry season...mmmmmmmmm.... blueberries......

Thanks for the feedback Matthew! I tried listening to yours but the links didn't seem to be working correct. I'll try again later.Yeah, mixing is something that I'm definitely trying to get better at. The ending on the 2nd song did cut out. When i exported the song I didn't give myself enough room after the ending, easily fixed though I agree that the 2nd one needs something else added to it.Thanks again!

Try again Vicky, I had updated the songs but instead of just over-writing the original version I ended up creating new ones and deleted the old ones. I forgot that would screw up the links in my original post. The links as they appear in the first post above should now work again.

Try This On For Size....about 26 seconds in you pull back from the octane...this groove here slows the feel...this may not work for listing....The Heart that Breaks doesn't do this....also the eq sounds better....I'd AB with other recordings for high end.....you're almost there.....sounds really good....good luck....I want to help more, but I'm not sure how the presence of melody works for a listing like this.....you may need more or less.....Vicky
