Listings sorted by.....

Post by arkjack » Mon Dec 04, 2006 1:30 pm

I know its probably a pain in the neck to write a program..... but if it wasn't, it sure would be convenient to sort the online taxi listings from the broadjam link in date order..... or have a hot sheet for the listings that have deadlines this week. I try to keep track with my notes and notebooks but I'm always afraid I'll miss a deadline on something I was plannning to get a submission ready for... juszt a suggestion...ArkJack

I use the following methode:1. I go through the taxi-listing and copy-paste every listing that is of interest for me. I paste 'em in a word-doc, sorted by date (deadline).2. I copy a couple of listings (usually the ones within 14 days) and paste them into a new word-file, and delet it in the original word-doc.3. I print the new word-file out and take it in the studio.Sometimes I make a note in my diary so I check again my word-doc with the choosen listings, the procedure repeats then.I only missed one deadline, and that because broadjam needed quite long to encode the mp3 - or better: I simply was late with uploading;)cheers,Martin

Hi Martin.thanks for that idea.... I realized that the listings are sorted by date in each genre so its just a matter of tracking the opportunities. I had the same problem with BJ yesterday, made a last minute decision to submit a song to a listing but the upload went past the deadline..... moral of story... make decision in advance...ArkJack

Ark, I really think it's just about managing ourselfes - the most of us are all in one person: manager, composer, producer, promoter... So just find a way that all these "persons" in you can be happy with;)for me, my way described above works very well.

Martin,The problem is that we can't figure out a way to fire that no-good manager. And that lazy composer never meets the producer's deadlines.

I think my staff needs a little time off.... been doing the dayjob at full steam, then coming home to the studio working on "stuff" till 1 or 2 AM..... since at least September...... we are all just anxious abouyt trying to get a flow of high quality material going to TAXI and create produce submit prolifically..... and worried that nothing I have is going to be good enough to make the cut.... @ark: I don't know your life-situation, but if possible try to work part-time in your dayjob. I know this isn't possible for all of us (..some have to support a family), but for those who can do it (e.g. just have to support themselves - and are willing to live on a low standard for quite a while) I think it's one of the best investements you can do in your music - besides really working on the music in your free time;)cheers,Maertin

Thanks for the supportive ideas.... everyone... Actually, I'm a self-employed CPA with a heavy tax practice.... so to some extent this is the off-season time to give the music business as much attention as possible.... before the rush. Its always a quesiton of balance..... I've noticed the gangbuster pace hasn't really helped creativity..... I always wonder how much better I'm going to feel when I get some $$ success from the efforts....ArkJack.
