I saw a dispatch listing today looking for songs & instrumentals, 60's sounding. I don't have the exact wording because I already erased it.Then they named a bunch of bands none of whom ever played an istrumental that I can remember. The question occurs: What do they want and what is OK to send?intrumentals a la the Ventures acceptable? They played in the sixties.I have an instrumental called Spy Surf, which mixes both those genres. It sonds kind of surf but you can hear motifs which recall spy movies, etc. Is something like that okay or way off the mark?Sorry for the misspellings. The word processor seems to be behaving strangely. It will not insert but only erases.
what do they want?

They played in the sixties. Here is that listing (I think):CLASSIC ROCK SONGS & INSTRUMENTALS a la bands from the 1960s [the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Doors, Cream, CCR, etc.]; the 1970s [the Eagles, Bad Company, Wings, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, etc.]; and the 1980s [Foreigner, Journey, Blondie, R.E.M., U2, Pat Benatar, etc.] are needed by a new LA-based Music Library being started by veterans of that industry. Great vocals and instrumental performances are essential - this company is very selective in what & who they sign. Male or female vocals are OK. No lyrical restrictions - all themes are OK. Classic rock from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Doesn't get much more wide open than that - practically the broad side of a barn. As long as you're not sending in anything that sounds like Green Day you're probably safe.

Re: what do they want?
If it sounds like classic rock from the aforementioned decades, it would be on target. If it sounds like a modern day homage to one or several of those decades, probably not.If it mixes styles that bands of those decades would not have mixed, probably not.Basically they want stuff that sounds authentic enough so it could be used to replace music by the well known bands of those years, for productions that can't afford the real thing. That's really the key thing to remember. Also notice that the listing has a high bar, so submissions need to kick butt compositionally and production wise to be forwarded.Hope this helps.matto
