Maybe this topic has already been brought up and answered but here goes anyway. I'm assuming that most Taxi members are also Broadjam members and therefore the bulk of submissions made to Taxi these days are digital over the internet via the Broadjam submission network. I could be wrong but let's say that's true anyway. So the Broadjam top ten categories are broken down into: genres, geography, age demographics and production values. My question is whether or not having one of your songs in the BJ top 10 is worthy in and of itself for a submission to a Taxi listing?Let's say I have one of my tunes in the BJ "jazz" top 10. Now if a Taxi jazz listing comes out then I'm more likely to feel confident that my tune is good based upon the fact that it's in a BJ top 10 jazz ranking. But that's not always a guarantee of getting a forward from Taxi to a particluar listing. There are many shades of gray. For instance the Taxi listing could be wanting smooth jazz and maybe my piece may be a little too straight ahead.I was just wondering if there might be a way to pre-screen tunes for submission based on their being on the BJ top 10. I guess not. What's hot today on the BJ top 10 doesn't necessarily mean it's a good fit for all taxi listings in a particular genre.Anyone agree/disagree? have other thoughts on this?

Those BJ top ten charts are a milestone, for sure. But they aren't Billboard and they should be considered just that... Billboard, R&R, Gavin and others are the real measures of where you are as a songwriter. Use these charts to define your progress, no matter how heartbreaking it may be, these are the reality...Best wishes...

I recently had one of my tunes in the Broadjam R&B top ten. I personally don't put too much weight on it. It's good to know that people like the music, but as far as for a specific industry submission: I tend to think that what people like and are open to is vastly greater than what the industry seeks and wants.

The real obstacle to getting a competitive song cut is the fact that you could have a tune that might be a chart-climbing wonder for a particular artist. If you submit that perfect tune to the wrong artist, though... No deal. The screener is in tune with what the label or artist is looking for. He or she knows what might work and what might not. Many hit songs were passed on by many successful artists only to have the song come back to haunt them.A BJ top ten just means that other songwriters liked your song, which is an indicator to some extent, but it doesn't get you through the gates of Sony/Tree.Taxi's goal is to get your competitive song to the perfect artist... More specifically, Taxi's goal is to get as many competitive songs as possible to the right artist...
