Re: Swing Return
The song’s lyrics must really stand out, in a playful and sweet “lucky in love” tone. Musically, he’s just looking for great songs with solid and engaging melodies. That part of the listing, is very important. You know I loved your funk piece Mike, but this swing piece, left me undersold. When I hear the word "swing," I think of Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman or Harry Connick. Your songs' lyrics are NOT YET AWESOME. They're nice. The melody, is not yet something I could hear a GREAT singer getting behind. The chorus, doesn't really take off, or soar. I'm not saying that all swing music doest that, but maybe in the screener's mind, that's what they were expecting. Your song is acceptable, but either one of 2 things happened when the screener listened: A) he/she thought the lyrics/melody/performance wasn't great, orB) it was not quite right for the listing, because of the direction your song has. Maybe they were looking for a big band horn section. One trumpet and one sax, might be too small. Sometimes a client is looking for no SOLO, in the song whatsoever. Maybe they don't want a brushing drum track. Who knows? Often the screeners standards are higher than the person making the decision at a library. It's no big deal, many new listings come around. Personally, the song is not a tune that I would pitch to a singer, unless they had a personal reason to sing a song about Cupid. Quote:Hey Matto.I respect your opinion...But I wasn't trying to re-invent the wheel here...I have confidence that I'll find the right listing for this down the road.P.S. I've heard that comment before about a lyric of a song that wasn't forwarded...when I sent that same song to that library,it was signed..Go figure Peace, MG

Hi Steve, I guess that's a polite way of saying the song sucked. I guess the screener thought so too Oh well might as well move on. MG

MG hmmm, that's not what I read into the majority of comments. Why not re-write the lyrics & post for more feedback on the melodic composition. In addition, I think if you removed the vocals from this it would make a great instrumental track & it certainly sounds broadcast quality to me.H'Bird

Well, I'm glad you said it first! Telling anyone their song sucks, rarely helps make it better, n'est-ce pas? Quote:Hi Steve, I guess that's a polite way of saying the song sucked. I guess the screener thought so too Oh well might as well move on. MG But what Vikki says, is entirely true. Do up a minus mix of this tune, and I bet you find more than one home (library) for it! Cause it sounds great, and all the instruments are very well-played.

Re: Swing Return
Hi Vicky ( Hummingbird ),As I said in a previous reply, this song's instrumental version has already been signed as well as a version with Christmas lyrics and another version with French Cabaret lyrics with 3 different libraries ...This is why I'm going ahead with sending this version( Cupid Got It Right ) to another library I already have a relationship with. I feel no need to re-write the melody or lyrics since it was good enough to get signed 3 times as is.I know most folks here at the forum want to be helpful but I think I'll refrain from posting for a bit...I'm easily insecure enough about myself already so I think I'll go with writing, producing, arranging & performing because too many opinions just perplexes and confuses me...Besides I've already signed deals for 23 tunes and had a placement so far in 1 year and 1/2...So I must be doing something right ? I have another 13 tunes being finished in the next week(s). I've been in the music bizz for 25 years and I realize you gotta have thick skin to such things, but I prefer to protect myself from this as much as possible...And maybe I'm not a forum type of guy after all ?Peace to all ,Mike

Mike....Quote:I've been in the music bizz for 25 years and I realize you gotta have thick skin to such things, but I prefer to protect myself from this as much as possible...And maybe I'm not a forum type of guy after all ?When you post asking for feedback....you get it....You're taking the comments people left way too personally....It's just a song....and there are many more where that came from...right?Just to make you feel better...I have a few songs that were put out in Europe on one of biggest labels in the world, and you know what ...I couldn't get a forward from Taxi....I just laugh, because it's all part of the learning curve, and everything is ultimately subjective.....it would be great to have someone with your knowledge on the forum, but ...it seems that you need to wrap your brain around the fact that the premise of the forum is to get better at our craft (I can't speak for everyone, if I could that's what I'd guess they'd say)...There are quite a few talented people here; it seems like you should be one of them....Plus....it seems like a healthy thing for you, since you had trouble hearing feedback, maybe giving some to others would give you perspective....You're obviously very talented...good luck...Vicky

Re: Swing Return
You're right Vicky the bass player...I shouldn't post if I can't deal with feedback...Especially the bad...That's why I'll take a break from posting....And yes, there are many more tunes to come. I'm sure a lot of folks here think like you do and agree...And that's cool. Like I said I'll just keep pluggin' away the same way I did before joining the forum ( a month ago )...I love being a musician and writing/producing songs and I'll focus on that instead of what people think of my music...

OK Mike...now I'm bugging you....Quote:Like I said I'll just keep pluggin' away the same way I did before joining the forum ( a month ago )...I love being a musician and writing/producing songs and I'll focus on that instead of what people think of my music...people were telling you what they think the screener thought....My take on library music(keep in mind I'm new at this).....you only need to play it once.....you don't need to perform it anywhere......and it'd be great to be making money from something you played and never had to think about again....and not worth getting super attached to....with that said....keeping the level high in all states of playing and composing is critical.....I'm truly from the school that there are plenty more tunes and performances to be composed and or performed....the well is infinate....and everyone has tunes that some people like and some people don't.....http://taxi.com/vickythebassplayer talk soon,Vicky

That sounded kinda despairing to me, and as though you were going to throw this one away. So my post was made to *encourage* you not to do that.Bear in mind all these comments were made to try to help you understand why your song was returned for this specific listing, because that's what you asked us to do in your first post.Writers are always going to get conflicting opinions on their music - it's just part of doing music. You are always the one who has to make the final decision on what to do.
