It's Working

Post by mazz » Tue Sep 11, 2007 8:39 am

Dispatch is working!I was forwarded mid-July for 3 pieces to the same company and they contacted me today. It's a library and it was just an initial contact but the ball is rolling! Some people want to know how long it takes to get contacted for Dispatch and so here's one example. Forwarded July 17th, contacted September 11th.Have a great one!Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

I'm in love! Weirdly, I had finished groovin' to Bait and Switch (neat title) and was fixin' to load up First Butterfly when John McLaughlin's "Afro Blue" started playing. I had to laugh at how closely your song matched the feel of that era. Perfect!!Your chording is HOT on Bait and is that a brush/sizzle/high hat pad you're using on Butterfly? Beautifully restrained playing there, too, btw. They're both gorgeous. How come you don't live down the street from me?

Great job, Mazz! You certainly deserve the success, with your excellent writing and producing skills (not to mention you're a nice guy). Both of these songs have a great vibe and sound. About the only thing I'd "fix" is some of the slop in Bait & Switch; there's room for pushing/dragging the beat in this style, but there were a few times (particularly in the first 1/3 of the tune) where your timing didn't feel right. Now if only Oprah needed jazz! AndréPS - To all: as far as a timeframe for hearing back after a forward, who knows? Every situation is different (though Dispatch listings are more likely to yield a quicker turnaround).
The greatest risk in life is risking nothing.

Andre,Thanks for listening! Your success has inspired me to keep pushing forward!I think you gave me some of the same feedback when I posted Bait and Switch before and I've not gotten around to fixing that yet. I think part of it is in the organ part, some of the phrases don't start quite where they need to. I've also done some groove quantizing on another piece I recently finished (60s game show theme) and was very pleased at how that came out so I may do a soft touch of that on Bait and Switch as well. Now if only Oprah would play more of my stuff!! Gotta talk with that girl!Yeah, as far as turnaround, it's all over the map, my example was just one of many.Take care,MazzPS: Squid: that cymbal was from a library called Beats Working, it's a rivet/sizzle cymbal with a nice long ring out. I add it to as many things as I can because it's such a beautiful sample! BTW: I live virtually next door, virtually, internet-wise, if you know what I mean!

Hmmm. We should do something about that, then. Musically, natch.

Quote:Are you actualy playing any of his or is it all samples? Are those two things mutually exclusive?? It takes a lot more than a good sampler to make a track come alive in the way that Mazz's music does, IMHO.
