World Music Forwards

Post by allends » Tue Aug 28, 2007 4:07 pm

Hello Friends,Perhaps there's hope for my sitar music. I just got a forward on two songs to this one:Quote:S070806WOThe President of an Independent Label with offices in Germany and Los Angeles is seeking eclectic and unique WORLD ARTISTS for distribution in the U.S. & Europe. All styles are OK, but their primary focus is on Indian, Brazilian, African and Australian/Aboriginal music & artists. They prefer that you already have a completed CD, but it's not necessary. Broadcast quality needed [excellent home recordings are OK]. Please submit two to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics/photo/bio. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Aug. 6, 2007. TAXI # S070806WOI am really pumped because my scores were mostly 9s and the comments I received were very flattering. Many of you may recall I was struggling with my song "Scratch 100" in this thread:http://taxi.proboards27.com/index.cgi?a ... 06&page=1I received help from Mikehelms, Jeffe, Songwriter, Johnnydean1, Panamacity, Mazz, and U Peters. This feedback resulted in a successful total re-write resulting in a new song "Sitar Suspense". Special thanks are due to Mazz for all his in-depth advice from the beginning to the end of the song! What you don't know is that Mazz sent me PMs encouraging me to make several useful changes. Thanks Buddy! If you'll permit me, the last comment I'll make in this gushing post is quite personal. This year marks my 39th anniversary as a guitar player. I've been "spankin' the plank" since I got my first guitar on my 13th birthday in the late '60s. But music took a back seat to more practical things until recently when I lost my second professional job in a year. I was feeling really bummed so I joined Taxi to see if making music could make me feel alive again. After a few months of competing I got my first forward and the feeling was great! These days I'm back to work in my professional carreer so Taxi isn't the only thing holding my sanity together, but getting these two forwards today is a whole new feeling. It's not like the first forward where it was all about feelings of pride and validation. Today I'm thinking: Yeah! I can do this thing! I can compete and win! I can make music that sells! Thanks Taxi, and thanks to all you forum members! I'm in the game & feelin' solid!-Allen

Yeah Allen! I just listened and I think the piece really kicks ass now. The rhythm section is full and up front and the playing is strong. The sounds are cohesive and the piece builds nicely. I love the sitar playing and the rock guitar is a great foil for it.Congrats on the forward! Glad I could help you with this one. It's tough to hang in there and you've been through a lot but your years on the fretboards can't be denied. Keep going! Now on to writing the next one!!!Mazz

Thanks for the high fives everybody. It means a lot. But like Mazz says "Now on to writing the next one!!!" Ths is especially true because this listing is from a label looking for complete CDs. I need to beef up my catalog ASAP! Lucky for me I just bought a new condenser mic & a room full of ethnic percussion and I had my sitar reworked by a guy who used to be Ravi Shankar's sitar tech. So, Johnnydean1, I must have cashed in the karma points you awarded me the other day .Hey Steve... what can I say? You really propped me up a couple months ago. I owe you one!And horacejesse: I deleted the old "Scratch 100" file because the bones of it are in the new song so it's not really lost - just fixed and re-titled.All The Best,Allen

This song really scoots! Congrats on the forward and many more to come, I can tell. Sitar music is up and coming right now. Very hot. I hope you're writing as I write this, lol.Are you hand drumming? I'm always interested in folks who can do that. I use it a lot myself but it's tough to find folks who understand the instrument they're playing.....tablas are different from doumbeks from congas from bodrhans, etc.....

I recently bought some congas and plan to record with them when I'm up to speed. That'll be great fun!BTW: I had friends over recently for some drumming fun and when it was time to call it a night one of the congas fell over and broke the sitar. She's split wide open in the back! It looks like I'll be able to repair her without too much trouble but at the moment the damage looks gruesome. Friends, there's no need to send sympathy cards... we'll pull through. -Allen
