Sadder Than The Song Of A Whippoorwill

Sadder Than The Song Of A Whippoorwill(Larry W. Jones 02/06/2008) (song#5293) I'm a country boy, my love was the real McCoyThis song ain't new but it's for youOur love once was high, as the stars up in the skyAnd as wide as the ocean's tideWell, now I've seen it all, like a star in free fallEven though you know how I triedOur love is as shallow as the hollerAnd as narrow as a riverLower than the pine trees that burned on yonder hillOur love's as cold as snowflakes that December makesLonesome as a robin left over in the chillAnd much sadder than the song of a whippoorwill From simple country sights to Broadway's neon lightsThere's thousands of broken love songs that lovers writeEvery song is written differentBut all of the words rhyme the sameCause each knows what the other meantThe only things changed are the namesOur love is as shallow as the hollerAnd as narrow as a riverLower than the pine trees that burned on yonder hillOur love's as cold as snowflakes that December makesLonesome as a robin left over in the chillAnd much sadder than the song of a whippoorwill Our love is as shallow as the hollerAnd as narrow as a riverLower than the pine trees that burned on yonder hillOur love's as cold as snowflakes that December makesLonesome as a robin left over in the chillAnd much sadder than the song of a whippoorwill Sadder than the song of a whippoorwill

"strong as the ocean's tide" will keep the nerds off your back.

Howdy BitWhy, and thanks for the critique.I know that "strong" as the tide is the usual reference, but I was trying to contrast between how wide (rhymes with tide)the ocean is, and how narrow a river is.I'll mull it over. Thanks again.........LWJ
