From Blades of Grass
From Blades of GrassMy wife and I took our collie, out for his morning runSaw the moon sink in the meadow, and surrender to the sunHeard songbirds with life in their wings, whistling of light born anewSaw a lone blue bonnet, sun shining on it like a sapphire in the dewWe held hands and stood quiet, while the sun was rising fastMorning’s made of those moments, like meadows from blades of grassThen I stood in our backyard, late that afternoonSaw the sun head behind the hills, making way for the moonMy wife’s lattice-top lemon pie, coolin’ on the windowsillShe touched my shoulder, and asked me to hold her in the twilight chillWe danced barefoot in the moonlight, as one more day came to passDays’re made of those moments, like backyards from blades of grassO that time and place, where hope and grace begin to mergeI realized slowly, they’re as holy as any churchSo I walked off by myself, back to that grassy fieldFelt as small as that bluebonnet, in the spot where I kneeledI released the thanks within me, in a moment of silent speechI knew God would hear it, cos prayers of the spirit go where words can’t reachStars flickered in the heavens, like a distant evening massFaith is made of those moments, like meadows from blades of grass©2007 Robert George
