I've Worked This Street Before

Post by good4somethingbum » Tue Nov 13, 2007 8:32 am

I’ve Worked This Street BeforePam glued a four inch heel back on her shoeSmeared red lipstick on her cheeks for rougeKnew the runs in her stockings wouldn’t show in the darkHoped where she got hit last night wouldn’t leave a markThen she paced the boulevardOutside of Sweeny’s barBouncer told her to be careful that nightPam said, “Sugar, I’m alrightchorusI worked this street before, near the wine and ginThis is where the lost, lose themselves in sinI’ve must be bold to find haunted soulsand I’m sorry to say I’ve worked this street beforeRev. Charles hated just preachin’ to the choirHis Dior suits made him feel like a Christian for hireHe wanted to tell sinners that God forgivesSo he hadda go where sinners liveSet a crate by Pam on the curbAnd started preachin’ the wordPam said we don’t get preachers out this wayHe said, “I’m sorry…I wish I could say…ChorusI’ve worked this street before, near the wine and ginThis is where the lost, lose themselves in sinI must be bold to find haunted soulsand I wish I could claim I’ve worked this street beforeThat bouncer didn’t recognize herWhen Pam showed up on that boulevardShe wore a blouse n slacks, gave out Gospel tractsSunday morning by the barHe told her to watch her step that dayShe said, “Mister, I’m okChorusI’ve worked this street before, near the wine and ginThis is where the lost, lose themselves in sinI must be bold to find haunted soulsAnd I’m happy to say I’ve worked this street before©2007 Robert George

I've read a few of your lyrics and this song is my favorite. I really like how the first chorus belong to Pam and then the second belongs to the reverend. Also you have nice phrases that are humorous but still don't take the reader away from the point (ie Christian for hire)Great work. I' love to hear some of these sung with some music. Keep me posted.

This is my favorite. All the details (gluing the heel back on her shoe, what she used for makeup) really make this lyric. I love it.
