Mustangs and Midnight Riders
Mustangs and Midnight RidersLookin' back now I still remember it wellshe saw my leather boots on that long brass railwhen she saw my bike, she knew that nightI was a lone outsidershe hopped on and I took her back to her placebut she woke up alone and got her first tasteof the bond between, men and road machinesand mustangs and midnight ridersI came back later and stood there silentlyI had something behind my eyes her heart could seeand the full moon glowed, on her lonely roadlike the eye of a tigerher arms held me close as we roared over a hillwings of passion grew wild over that Harley's wheelssoon she gave her love, to a fam'ly ofmustangs and midnight ridersI still recall ridin' that wild stallion Harleylike a roving cowboy on the open rangepast flowing rivers and waving fields of barleyfrom Cheyenne to Tucson and on through La Grangeand thinkin' back on my poor ol' bike tonightreminds me of the old grey my dad useta ridecos my father cared, for that feisty marewith ev'ry breath and fiberand mama useta complain when he'd take that horsefor restless rides through moonlit sycamoresthough she loved her man, nothing's closer thanmustangs and midnight ridersDad said when his time came he hoped he went quicklybut the golden rule can be a gilded cagecos he let the mare he loved grow weak and sicklybefore he buried her out in the whistling sageit's been so long since my Harley was first saddlebrokenow it stalls all the time and it coughs thick black smokeit still starts some nights, cos like dad's old rideit's always been a fighterI'd lose part of my past if I sold it for partsso I'll bury it in my shop 'neath an old blue tarpwith my wife at my side, we'll stand here and cryfor mustangs and midnight riders(c)2007 Robert George
