The Magic in Your Smile
Plays acoustically as a 4/4 ballad but I'm arranging it (plod, plod, plod) with a bit of a swing since I'm a sucker for compound rythms.cheers,bThe Magic in Your Smile© Brian Dondo 2004I have been where shamans go to dream of youand I been to places that I see deep in your eyesand I have marched with scoundrelsand heard the angels cryand I have stood alone against the test of timeI have heard of other roads to travelmysteries and adventuresdestinies to findin the end I'd leave it all behind meto see the magic in your smile(chorus)no small wonder how it happenedyou right hereme way over thereno small wonder that you found meguess that's the magic in your smileI have seen the world in all its splendourwatched the veil of tears returnto keep it under siegealways hope to make my way beyond ittoo see the magic in your smile(chorus)its a miracle to mentionyes that's the magic in your smile(chorus)that's the magic in your smileyes that's the magic in your smile

Thanks David. That's very encouraging. Thanks for taking the time.Yeah it is kind of an old standard, ain't it? smiling magic. but I had already written the lines leading up to it so I really didn't think I neede to break any more new ground at the lyrical "payoff". I think its the "story" behind it, so to speak, that gives the song a sense of novelty. as you said.thanks again,Brian

BitWys,not knowing what the music sounds like, just going by the lyrics, I hear Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet...it has that classic, classy vibe to it...If you did a killer ratpacker version of this with a great singer, I think you'd have the music supervisors lining up...But like I said, I'm just going by the lyric, don't know if the music would lend itself to something like that...Matt

I shouldn't laugh but you've got to hear the arrangement I'm putting to it. It actually is a kind of a Jazz/ratpack thing but not at all as mellow as the lyrics might suggest. Now I'll have to bear down and get the silly thing done. LOL!thanks again. I'll make sure to PM you when I'm finished and have it uploaded somewhere

Quote:does swing still have a market?I think that for film/tv, everything has a market.I met a guy at the last Rally that does a lot of swing/big band music (in addition to some other things). Regarding his swing/big band stuff (which is top-notch), he's in some VERY nice music libraries (some of which are also graced by our own Matto) and has placements on television as well as several big Hollywood feature films. At the Rally, a track of his music was in a movie that was premiering in LA that week, the same week that at track of Matto's was premiering in another film. I was pretty impressed on both counts.
