Post by couchgrouch » Wed Oct 25, 2006 7:15 am

Chevron Credit CardWell, after nights of tough barfights and white port wineI'd locked myself out of our paint-chipped house a hundred timesthat night it was two o'clock I pounded n knocked yellin' on the porchI thought she was kiddin' when my lady didn't answer the doorbut the echo of loneliness welcomed me in the darkwhen I jimmied our back door with my Chevron credit cardshe stole my stash of bail-out cash from that Folger's cancaught a Greyhound non-stop bound for her Dad's place near Cheyenneit shook my soul so deep and cold when she left me that wayand it'd take a trip on twelve steep steps to follow her somedayand for once I didn't break into my foolish heartwith bottles of wine I put on a Chevron credit cardI made that climb one step at a time though I stumbled on 'em allbut it's a funny thing how unseen wings catch the weak when they fallI called lotsa times but her dad came on the line and slammed the phone downwell, my old ride had one headlight and I prayed it'd make it outta townbought some chew n choke burros and gassed my Dodge Dartthe bare minimum nearly maxed my Chevron credit cardI drove hard n fast then stopped for gas just twenty miles awaythey had roses for sale, red n pink n pale and I bought a mixed bouquetshe saw me 'cross the plain hikin' that rugged two-lane...roses in my handran with wind in her braids, kissed me at the gate of her daddy's ranchI'd run outta gas ten miles back and left my old Dodge Dartcos my life rested on what I got with my Chevron credit card(c)2006 Robert George

hey Mikey! thanks for the kind remarks! generally folks put music to my lyrics but I have worked the other way around. I put lyrics to an existing track for Long May You Ride on my page at www.soundclick.com/couchgrouch . the ending gets repetitive but that's how my co-writer wanted it. I don't mind words being shaved off here and there for meter's sake etc. you've gotta do what the song needs. I sometimes write more than what I need and just put it all in anyway.
