Back, Up, Down and OutI'd been workin' full speed aheadtill the night I lost my wifethen I had to back up a bitand take stock of my lifeI went back east for a spellcos she had family therebut they had nothing but emptyand just shadows to shareso I gave up and drove up northfound a shack on a frozen lakewhere disappointment told meto forsake hope for my heart's sakecos I lost my wayI was wandering blindI couldn't see if tomorrowlay ahead or behindlooking back I realize, all I did was close my eyesand hope for a signwell, I headed south and boughtmoonshine masks for Mardi Grabut two sad eyes was all I sawwhen morning tore those masks offthen that face hit some posterson sheriff's walls down southwhen I mopped up some bars withdumb asses with smart mouthsso I followed time out westdangled my boots from Frisco's docksdying light clawing day's thin edgeseemed like the only honest clockcos I lost my wayI was wandering blindI couldn't see if tomorrowlay ahead or behindwas life sunset or sunrise, all I did was close my eyesand hope for a signdrifting wouldn't get her backso I just headed back homewas she high on that hill, up in the cloudsor was I really alonecos sod could be a leave's last branchor the bed of an eternal seedit's either faith or doubtI could stay down and outor get back up on my own two feetso I touched her stone and felt the skywhere it ends is where it startsnow whenever I feel losthome is the compass of my heartcos I lost my wayI was wandering blindI couldn't see if tomorrowlay ahead or behindlooking back I realize, all I did was close my eyesand hope for a sign(c)2004 Robert George
