Someday School
Someday SchoolI went to First Baptist alone, cos my folks had to stay hometo work the farm and pay the billsand on the walk back from church,I'd sit 'neath a big old birchand watch a mansion on the hillI'd wish to live like that one dayso I'd daydream the hours awayat someday schoolstaring off in the distanceat Cadillacs and jewelsand the path of least resistancecos wanting what's out of reach,is all they ever teachat someday schoolI grew up and made my own life, learned a trade...met my lovely wifemost of the time I stayed contentbut there were nights in my dreams,I'd see rooms with richer thingsthen wake up thinking about the rentI'd look around at all I lackedand the sight would take me backto someday schoolstaring off in the distanceat heated swimming poolsand what seemed a good existencecos wanting what's out of reach,is all they ever teachat someday schoolbut ev'ry wish I cast upon the windnever returned to me againnow I enjoy life on my own termscos it taught me to forget all I learnedat someday schoolstaring off in the distanceat Cadillacs and jewelsand the path of least resistancecos wanting what's out of reach,is all they ever teachat someday school(c)2004 Robert George
