Re: ONOFFON
Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is from a disc jockey/artist from Song Planet Radio. He has always enjoyed and played our music over at Song Planet and even hosted a feature interview with me - live over telephone - it's archived at the link I've left below -Song Planet RadioFokker Feature Interviewhttp://www.songplanet.com/artists/bands/657/ONOFFONReviewed by Lucky Fokker"hey von from onoffon .. your wit is almost as slick as your music ... what can i say ? musically flawless .. song composition excellent .. performances brilliant, recording excellent ... i'm impressed .. different tempos, time changes, atmospheres .. it's all good ... and some are not my favorite genre, but they were still worth listening to ..to me that says a lot when a band can do that...peacelucky fokker"Song Planet is an ally to the independent musician - they play quite a diverse array of music - check it out - and thanks to Lucky...

Re: ONOFFON
How about more GarageBand reviews for today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day... this time on our song, "Shadowglass" -GarageBand.comONOFFON - "Shadowglass"walzerd - Loveland, Ohio"outstanding...simply said. beautiful piece of music...almost sounds like it could be used in a movie. by far the best representation of jazz i've heard thus far. production is great. perhaps some more percussion could be added... or go for the pat metheny thing and have a vocalist. guitar work and flute work is outstanding. finally an amazing track!"unsui - Hamilton, Ontario, Canada"Easy Jazz with Soul - Nice guitar work. A very soothing sound. All performers are very obviously talented. 5/4 is my favorite time signature, one can do no wrong in it. Good choice of scale structures in the guitar solo. The overall production is well done."durkina1764"Funky, heady, jazzy, 70s smart composition - I REALLY liked this track--I liked the odd time signatures, the complexity of the tune/arrangement, the use of flute. Well-put together, well-thought out. This tune definitely stands out from most of everything else I've heard on garageband.com. I can't say much else. I wouldn't change anything."Singer377 - Shorewood, Illinois"Remarkable - A very beautiful piece. Well written and wonderfully performed. Keep up the good work, and best of luck to you."LoveMoose - Salt Lake City, Utah"Fabulous Flute, Jazzy Jam - Were there an extra credit category for "flute," of course you would get it. I love this sound! Especially the 70's - esque funky smooth flute with the modern rock-ish guitar. Great sound. Really good!!"Thanks as always to those who left their thoughts...

Re: ONOFFON
Here's an almost review from a site that never got off the ground. What looked to be a promising review zine just couldn't get the staff and support it took to run it, but it is, nonetheless, the ONOFFON SSP of the Day - Meteor ReviewsONOFFON - Surrender NowReviewed by Tom Boyle"Thanks for the message and the CD. I had planned to get back to you sooner, but it has taken me much longer. Meteor has died. Without a staff to help me, it became too big of a monster for me to manage alone - and it was barely in its infancy!I enjoyed listening to your music, and think the band plays a diverse mix of musical styles - each with expert skill and energy - which is something I'd like to see from more bands these days. I want to write a review and try to get it into another more successful ezine or magazine. My schedule is insane, so I can't promise anytime soon. But I will write it, and if I can't get it placed anywhere, I'll run it in Meteor's 1st and only issue. If you have certain publications in mind that might accept freelance reviews or that might suit your music well, let me know. Maybe later we could do an email interview. We'll see. Thanks for the chance to hear your music and let the world know about it.Take care,Tom BoyleGlobal Graphics and Publishing"We thank Tom for his kind words and we were sorry he couldn't get his site up and running - the internet existence is not easy, as we all know...

Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day once again comes from the annals of GarageBand.com, this time reviewing our tune, "Ocean's Cry" -GarageBand.comONOFFON - "Ocean's Cry""Too Cool!!! Reminds me a little of a band called The Aquarium Rescue Unit, a song they've got called Save Yourself. Extremely captivating. I hear hints of Steve Vai, Frank Zappa, Chicago, and Mahogany Rush. Well written with cool vocals and great musicianship throughout. Outstanding piece of music!"Reviewed by: OrganicRock from Berlin, New York "This one gets points for originality.Vocals sound good, also harmonies are well done. Bassist is the backbone, well done. I like the mixture of styles with in the song. Initially sounds like hard rock, then the harmonies bring a pop sound out then you change to a jazz sound. Love the harmonica. Anyway it was well executed and sounds good."Extra Credit: Bass, Originality.Reviewed by: northern from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada"The bridge is fricking greatI love the bridge alot. It reminds me of a classic rock band named Steely Dan. Good arrangement and overall production of the song. Guitars work well together and drums compliment accordingly. Guitar solo is good too. Overall, great song and great beat. I love it."Extra Credit: Guitars, Production, Melody, Beat, Originality, Grooviest Rhythm.Reviewed by: dissoned from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania"diggin it cool main riff mix with some very cool breaks. very tight. lyrics were the weak point but not bad. sweet jazzy instrumental break. great harmonies. harmonica rocks. oh my gawd i think we're talkin a fiver. dammit, how am i suppose to win a recording contract now?"Reviewed by: roadstrut from Wichita, Kansas"Interesting.....I like this....its odd, but i like it. The music sounds like an odd combination of sort of death-metal w/victor wooten (of bela fleck) type bass...and a surprising chorus. Nice harmony."Reviewed by: ToughGuy from Setauket, New YorkWell, well, well... let's see... comparisons to Steve Vai, Frank Zappa, Chicago, Mahogany Rush, Steely Dan and Victor Wooten of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones... man, Victor Wooten? *whew* I'm the bassist and that just blows me away... I know Wooten's work and I'm no Victor Wooten... but thanks just the same......and thanks to all these reviewers...

For today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day, here's more great reviews from GarageBand on our song, "Weekend in Montreal" -GarageBand.comONOFFON - "Weekend in Montreal" "Awesome saxI love the solo sax sound. I like the pace of the musical thoughts - long enough to establish but not to exhaust. Good balance between the soloist and the rhythm section. I would like to hear this chart arranged with horns in the backup."Extra Credit: Mood.Reviewed by: blythespirit from Delta, British Columbia, Canada"This number deserves airplay.Very nice tenor sax work. Very interesting composition."Extra Credit: Sequencer/Effects Programming, Production, Melody, Mood, Originality, Coolest Chill-Out Track.Reviewed by: Narsuitus from Fort Worth, Texas "Professional! This is real good jazz, you establish a really good mood ---- Very Professional."Extra Credit: Drums, Production, Melody, Beat, Mood, Originality, Most Rocking Track.Reviewed by: hiphopjazz from Brea, California "It's all here........Wow!!! I'm truly impressed by all of the musicians involved.... beautiful performance by all and a great tune. Move the bassist out in the mix a little more for some more groove."Extra Credit: Drums, Beat, Mood, Originality, Most Rocking Track.Reviewed by: P_Bass_it from Concord, California"great one!great one! everything is good! i love the way guitar backing up the solo, especially at the beginning of the first slow part, it (guitar) sounds so wise!"Extra Credit: Guitars, Melody, Beat, Mood, Best Feel Good Track.Reviewed by: always from Toledo, Ohio "Sultry and smoothI could listen to this all night long..."Extra Credit: Mood.Reviewed by: Chello_H from Toronto, Ontario, Canada"C'est vifC'est très vivant un peu fou fou... ça part même un peu en couille parfois... mais ça reste très bien construit... belle maîtrise."Reviewed by: Manella from Bergbieten, FranceMuch thanks to all those reviewers....

Re: ONOFFON
ONOFFON's SSP of the Day is from a wonderful artist from the old Mp3.com, Ricky Boy from Circle of Friends -Circle of FriendsONOFFONReviewed by Ricky Boy"Right on Von!!!OnOffOn.. was one of the first CD's I purchased when I first came to mp3.com.. The talent was always there, the music was a rock and roll symphony. I still drool over the silent escapes that your band seems to create. It's like a quick breath.. the kind you inhale when the woman of your dreams, walks into the room. Music has a way of taking me apart at the seams. Talented bands thread the fabric of life back into reality.. I believe we become more intune with our feelings. OnOffOn always had a great punch, I really enjoyed the showmanship..even though I have never seen you live..it comes across in your recorded works. Blessings"Our sincere thanks to Ricky Boy and the Circle of Friends...

Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day isn't a review - as many of you know, CNET bought the Mp3.com URL and has recently relauched two sites - Mp3.com and music.download.com. They've stated Mp3.com is for 'signed' artists and music.download.com is for 'indie' artists.Well, although we're definitely NOT signed, ONOFFON is represented on BOTH sites, and already featured on one of them -Approved on Friday and featured today on their Jazz page - http://music.download.com/2001-7985_32-0.html?tag=dir Very cool! Thanks to MP3_Dave and the whole CNET crew! And, here's our Mp3.com page - http://www.mp3.com/artists/333517/summary.html No music up yet - but once the 'Musicvine' is linked to iTunes and Rhapsody, there will be a direct link to all of our songs available for purchase and download! And, just for good measure - our music.download.com page - http://music.download.com/onoffon/3600- ... 48764.html The independent music movement is gaining momentum!!!!

Re: ONOFFON
I received our first TAXI® Feedback sheet on our first submission - which was 'returned' and not forwarded - but I still thought it would serve well as today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day. I submitted two songs - #1. "Please Baby Please", and #2. "Wet Legs". #1 received 9's in Production, Engineering, and Musicianship; and 8's in Lyrics, Arrangement, and Lead Vocal. It's lowest ratings were 7's in Music and Marketability. #2 received 9's in Arrangement, Production, Engineering, and Musicianship; and 8's in Music and Lead Vocal. It's lowest ratings were 6's in Lyrics and Marketability. They were submitted in the category of 'Novelty Songs'.#1 had comments like, 'I really liked the funky groove and hooky guitar lines'. #2 said, 'The band sounds great; esp. guitars', and '#2 is well recorded & sounds radio ready'. Overall comments said, 'In terms of playing, these tracks sound excellent.' And, 'Keep up the good work & all best to you.'The criticisms of both songs came in the lyrical content. The reviewer felt that neither song was 'witty' enough for this listing. Wow - tough crowd. oh...and BTW, in "Please Baby Please", the drummer played slapping his thighs, played the zipper on his fanny pack, and used brushes on newspaper at the end. It was totally spontaneous and I thought made it perfect for the 'novelty' sound. Either way, it's still an excellent review of both songs - in musicianship and production, which is really all we can do. Maybe our next submission will hit the next reviewer on target...

Re: ONOFFON
Here's a couple of off the cuff board reviews from the old Mp3.com - I love going through all these reviews - it's what being an artist and making all these personal sacrifices is all about - thank God for each and every one of them -Mp3.com BB reviewsONOFFONThe ChozinSep 22, 2002 at 22:31:09Re: Re: First 20 submitted will get reviews"OnOffOn... That's what im talking about a tru underground artist really trying to make it happen. Songs were well thought out and very good if i may say so myself. I could listen to it anytime of the day while im relaxing. I guess i got to step my game up if i got comp out there like this. Even though we in diffent genre we are all in competition. Great work! you made a fan."csuspendedaudiodreamOct 26, 2002 at 09:33:51Re: Re: Im reviewing today "onoffonIm a big fan of every style of music... including jazz. You can tell your songs are professionaly recorded and possibly mastered. So no complaints in that dept. Every bit of detail is captured in your music. I think it would be awsome to implement some smooth jazz into your bands style... this style seems to be very appealing to the masses. Fantastic music... thanks for sharing!"Very cool...
