Re: ONOFFON
Alright - here it is - today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day - the direct link to the Daily News article -http://www.adquest3d.com/da/content.cfm ... 343939This is way bigger than whether or not ONOFFON lives or dies - this is about the cultural enhancement of world music and bringing to light all the wonderful contributions by the great musicians from the west coast jazz scene... I pray every day that God allows me to make this a reality...

Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is an email from Outcry Magazine - an ezine that publishes its magazine in downloadable PDF files as well as a CD version - this was my initial contact -"Hello Onoffon,I definitely want to profile you in Outcry Magazine. I will get a hold of you shortly about what I need from you. I will have to contact you later to fill you in on what month you will be featured at that time. Thank you,Darin"Since then, Darin has let me know that we will be featured in the August, 2006, issue. Thanks to Darin for finding our group worthy of a feature in his magazine...

Re: ONOFFON
Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is a visit to our Mixposure page featuring our song, "Weekend in Montreal" - this is a collection of some of the latest reviews of this song left by listeners -Mixposure - ONOFFON - Weekend in Montrealhttp://www.mixposure.com/song.php?songid=563Reviews for Weekend in Montreal by ONOFFON Reviewed by: zander blair - 3/24/2006 "great playing some very accomplished playing on the sax, some interesting runs, sounding more interesting over the backing. i like the more relaxed part afterwards, contrasts the bustling feel of the first bit, and there are some great chord progressions as well. the very relaxed bit around 3:15 is very nice too, really contrasting the 'busier' bit even more this time. like i said, some beautiful playing, and overall great jazz instrumental. love the slow ending with the bass and saxzander"Reviewed by: Slarou - 10/30/2005 "A dedicated fan just wanna tell it. I always loved this great tune but i think i never told you. I had on my Pc before it crashed and now my Pc is dancing on this new download i gave him (him? oops not sure of this word...ahahah). This is JAZZ as i do love. Some cool relax movements by this so nice theme and, some very punchy ones around it. Your band sound tight and nuanced. A Montreal fan(as you sure know).Slarou" Reviewed by: Maria Daines - 9/5/2005 "A wild world... A hit you in the ears and senses wandering delight of sound and texture, feel this warmth and fluidity, it plays with every beat and misses no opportunity to speak and communicate with the listener. A very beautiful voyage into another genre for me that I rarely visit, well I am very glad I did. This piece of music is so finely tuned that it is exquisite and it could be the soundscape to many seasonal scenes within a walk through another country. Graceful, challenging, upbeat, sentimental, fiery and full bodied with a slight temper boiling beneath the surface, definitely smouldering in rich imagery that I can see. Thank you (a jazz spotlight visitor!)" Reviewed by: WTFjazzfunk - 8/12/2005 "great energy - Fantastic song, and interesting to hear the complete change in vibe from the last song of yours I heard. A truly accomplished band. Good to know there's this kind of talent going in this kind of direction. Keep it up!"Reviewed by: piperon - 7/12/2005 "The Famous Band in Famous Place. A unique play at the city Montreal, a famous and favourite place for musician. Another neat and fabulous saxaphone play by ONOFFON. I always confused with the sound of Saxaphone and Clarinet - they almost sound alike to me. But, I am sure this is saxaphone then. This is a great and enchanting melody line of this great saxaphone with so much rhythms and a playful one. This is have given the audience in Montreal the feel of jazzy music, the powerful jazzy music especially at 3:39, the gentleness and softness can penetrate directly into your soul without even going near to it. Very melodioue and delicous, one of a kind in Jazzy Music. Great Musicianship and great plays."Reviewed by: guymichetti - 4/21/2005 "A Sax plays At St-Catherine & St-Lauren - I've been to Montreal many times and it is one of my favorite cites in the whole world. The first time I visited Montreal we had driven all night. It was March and cold wasn't the word for it. I didn't go to sleep, I wandered throught the streets of Montreal for hours amazed by the beauty, especially of the old part of the city. You guys catpured that memory for me in this tune!!! What a wonderful performance by a master player on the sax. Great tone, wonderful phrasing and so much heart!!!! Another wonderful piece by a great friggin' band!!! It does not get any better then this. You guys should perform this at the Jazz Festival there. Please tell me you are and I'll see if I can rearrange my vacation schedule. May be going there this year!!!"Mind you, this song was recorded and released on our first album, Surrender Now, almost nine years ago - and it still inspires these kinds of listener reviews!!! Thanks to all who left their thoughts...

Re: ONOFFON
I don't really know how many people actually read this post of mine - I sincerely appreciate the support many of you have shown me in my quest to demonstrate that what we're trying to do has real substance and, hopefully, a level of quality and integrity that my father set back in the 40's and 50's. In this music business, though, orange mohawks and bootylicious babes have a lot more to do with selling music than creative depth and instrumental virtuosity.I have come to a defining moment in my life - here's some particularly amazing news... I have just been accepted for fiscal sponsorship by the New York Foundation for the Arts to produce a film documentary about my father's life and his contributions to west coast jazz history. I submitted a 20+ page proposal and their quoted response was, "we agree that this is a film that needs to be made". I will now be operating under the umbrella of their non-profit status to raise funds to make the film, with their endorsement, of course. The documentary will present an overview of west coast jazz with a main focus on my father's accomplishments. I will continue to produce a series of films that will feature prominent west coast jazz musicians. This is major breakthrough for me - to have such a distinguished organization deem my film worthy of sponsorship is tremendous validation for everything I have been working for. It will also bring recognition to my museum project and all the great musicians in our archives. Among the many artists who got their starts through NYFA are critically acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee in 1985, and Zana Briski, who won the 2005 Oscar for Best Documentary with Born Into Brothels.I want to thank NYFA for giving me this wonderful opportunity. Now, the real work starts...

Re: ONOFFON
Thanks Ern - thanks Drew...No - dad never made it down to New Orleans. St. Louis, Kansas City, New York - toured with Benny Goodman when Gene Krupa was drumming - then, when Louis Bellson replaced Krupa, they all came out to California. Pretty much stayed here the rest of his life...He did play a lot of Dixieland jazz, though. Mostly at Disneyland...
