Re: ONOFFON
Wow - two weeks since my last entry.... time sure flies...I haven't been idle, that's for sure. My LOI total is now up to 210 foundations including some of the largest companies on the planet. I am now starting to send out additional information to a few I've been requested to do so. On top of that, I'm simultaneously writing two features on ONOFFON for magazine articles and a feature for a website about the film. Not to mention the script... Back to work...

Re: ONOFFON
The quest continues...I now have a preliminary page on the NYFA website -NYFA Artists - Von Babasinhttp://www.nyfa.org/nyfa_artists_detail.asp?pid=5613I have given them more information and a couple of pics that they are due to update the page with soon but this is at least a searchable presence on their site. The foundations are getting harder to find. After sending LOI's to a total of 222 foundations now, the resource I have is starting to dry up. Mind you, I can only send to foundations that specifically support arts and culture, so, finding more has become a harder and much more time consuming operation. Googling for new and different searchable databases that are freely accessible to the public - going to foundation websites and reading their individual guidelines - I've only found four in the last three days. And talk about building a thick skin, I've received roughly fifty letters of rejection. While they are usually quite polite and very supportive, ultimately, they will not be helping to finance the film. Nonetheless, I am undaunted in my odyssey and remain resolute in my determination to succeed...

I like your quote. Keep it up, Von, and don't forget to invite me to the premier.

Quote:oh, the quote i was talking about is on the link you gave, about telling a story that most people don't know, what did you say, falls between the cracks? Thanks Nomi - yeah, fall between the cracks. History is very selective sometimes - it's up to historians and documentarians to sort it all out...Funny, they updated the site and removed the quote you mentioned. I asked them to add what is there now to the original paragraph but I guess there was some miscommunication. Plus, they haven't added the pics I sent them. I'm sure it will all get sorted out eventually. In the meantime, I just got back from Kinko's making more copies....

Re: ONOFFON
Here's a cool one -A website called Mab-X-Music: The Music Portal, that announces a variety of music news items by drawing their information from various related websites, has announced my NYFA sponsorship -Mab-X-Music: The Music PortalTelevision/Film: Von Babasin Receives New York Foundation for the Arts Sponsorshiphttp://news.mab-x-music.com/31-jazz/9177....pons orship.htm(It looks like you may have to cut and paste this link...)It has posted the story from the All About Jazz website and linked to it. I also like the fact that we're announced, side-by-side, on the same page as the ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards announcement. Just sent off eight more proposals...

Here's a cool one -I have just been invited to apply for a Guggenheim Fellowship! While simply applying for a fellowship is no guarantee that I will be awarded one, this is extremely good news. I sent them all of my project information and their response was an application - that is a good sign. The support of such a prestigious organization as the Guggenheim Foundation would be tremendously validating. In the meantime, I'm preparing twelve more proposals to mail in the morning. That will make a total of 242...

Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is from our friend, DJ and artist Les Lewellyn, who hosts the Chill Pill podcast I announced a few posts back on this thread. He has now been added to the TowerPod.com podcast site. When you have a song on his podcast, and your CDs are for sale on the TowerRecords.com website, it automatically links to your page - how cool is that?ONOFFON on Eclectic Pod - Episode 3 at TowerPod.comhttp://www.towerpod.com/channels.html?id=47Very cool of Les to include us in his podcasts... Thanks Les!

Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is a c0nsensus review of our song, "The Gift Must Always Move". The Consensus is a review site that gets its name from the group reviews they perform on independent music submitted to their site. A collection of reviewers listens to your song and write individual reviews that are then averaged together to give you a consensus total. This is the link -Another Music Review by The Consensus'The Gift Must Always Move' by ONOFFONGenre: InstrumentalScore: 7.80 / 10http://www.c0nsensus.com/reviewDetail.php?requestID=957The lowest individual score was 6.75 and the highest was 9.50. While all were complimentary, I'll post the 9.50 here -Christian Lowensprung gave a score of 9.5 / 10. Comments were:"Calm and soothing instrumental music by ONOFFON. The guitar play, and electronic aquatics that this song has been given, really stands out as some of the most impressive I've heard this year. It mixes elements of jazz, and puts a guitar at the front seat. This song really calmed me down, and proves that a song doesn't have to make a statement (have vocals) to prove anything at all. "The Gift Must Always Move" is a piece of art. A true tribute to music, and to subtle guitar play. Yes, ONOFFON, spot on! Highly recommended download."Scoring: Songcraft: 9, Recording: 9, Freshness: 10, XFactor: 10To give you an idea of where this falls in their site, the average score as stated on their homepage for their reviews is 5.48. So, 7.80 is quite a respectable score. In fact, it was good enough to put us at #8, for now, on their Our Picks page -Consensus Music Reviews - Our PicksThe best of the best!http://www.c0nsensus.com/ourpicks.phpMind you, this is a review of a song we released on our first album, nine years ago. Our sincere thanks to The Consensus for its wonderful review of our music!

Quote:Hey everyone -Music Promotion Trainhttp://www.myspace.com/music_promotion_trainThanks to all who participate!Wouldn't you know it... the train came off its tracks... They had a problem with the site that was hosting the 'poll', so they threw everything out and started over. Now, our comfortable lead has turned into a deficit...So, if you happened to have voted for us already, perhaps you might consider going back and trying this process over again?I hate it when stuff like this happens... Thanks!
