Just Saying Hi ! - Stop by and say Hello !

Post by tiger6 » Sun Oct 12, 2008 1:34 am

Hi There, I recently rejoined Taxi after a few years away and have added some songs and music to my profile. Please feel free to look me up and to have a listen at http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.p ... moonmusicI seem to have several musical personalities .... not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing but the music I've uploaded so far tends to reflect this. I'll try to characterise what's there in the list below. Kevin Walsh - Celtic Influenced Clarinda's Reply The Lion and The Cross Shades of Gold and Crimson By The Shores of Loch Lee Journey of a Dream Kevin Walsh - Rock God (Via my "Band" The Combination") Maybe One Day July 20th 1969 Kevin Walsh - Media ComposerL-Three Meditation-S Prologue If you have any questions, comments or advice I'd love to hear from you. I'm looking forward to becoming an active member of the Taxi community again ! Best WishesKevin

Hi there, tiger6!Welcome to this forum... 'We' are pretty new here ourselves.*I* am going to do my best to give you the type of reply I would expect with your post :I clicked your link and was happy to see I was greeted with multiple songs to choose from. You did indeed point out having several personalities... That was pretty cool.So after clicking a couple 'play' buttons... My A.D.D. wasn't agreeing with the bagpipes so I ended up on "Maybe One Day". I've always personally liked tunes that have vocals start with the music. The song itself seems to follow basic patterns and structure... Which is always good. The 'problem' in my head with that... Listening to the song, everything comes off to me as over-emphasized... Also kinda sluggish. I would personally try to better blend a flow into your music... I'd probably pick up the tempo a bit too.I do like the blend of the piano going into your first chorus. I just hear a need for change-of-pace. That feeling came around (as kinda already expected) halfway through the second verse. It seems like it'd be a more 'effective' song if you maybe... Mixed up your vocal patterns. Small alterations and 'tweaks' to your already-written music to 'match'. It'd probably take out the redundant feeling I got. You know... Help keep the 'listener' interested. Another thought that refused to escape me was... At points, the vocals sounded Elmer Fudd'ish. Might want to work on your delivery of the vocals in those areas. The way the vocals sound could really distract a listener from the actual song.Having the lyrics to read along would help. Otherwise, the vocals just turn to patterns and pitches/tones (to me) Lyrics would really help (the listener):1.) Cater to aforementioned A.D.D.2.) Understand the lyrics better. ( Unfortunately, my mind gets lost in the redundant patterns. )So... In closing to sum it all up:Your song sounds like it's a solid foundation for a flowing song that can't help but be touching. It has a lot of work to do, but I feel that 'lot' of work would be good for the song, indeed. I think you could 'liven it up' a bit with a lil time-change... Add more 'meat' to the music. Take the duuuuhu-duh duuuuuh-duh out of it. Everything sounds too forced. The music and the vocals. It just feels like it's missing a 'spark of passion'. And don't get me wrong... I don't want to question your passion behind your music. That's just the best word that fits the feeling. =)Music : 5Lyrics : 5Marketablilty : 4Arrangement : 5Production : 5Engineering : 4Right now, it sounds pretty average. I do NOT have a professional ear but that's my .02 anyway. As personal, objective, and responsive as I can be. I do hope it helps you in some fashion. =) I would seriously love to hear you turn what's now an 'ordinary' tune into an extraordinary tune.Keep in mind; that's just one of your tunes. I still have others to listen to... Pretty confident I'll make it through at LEAST a couple more. I hope that helps you in some way. Let me add this... No matter what ANYONE tells you about your music. Don't stop until you stop feeling it inside. And I DO promise you I'll get through the bagpipes. It's a heritage thing to my understanding.
