Jazz Players

Post by jazzstan » Fri May 23, 2008 2:06 pm

Hi, I'd love to connect with other jazz-influenced players. One specific goal, to trade musical support, e.g., I'd can add some tastey guitar parts and maybe musical ideas to your tunes, in exchange for piano, bass, drums other instruments or even vocal parts or recording skills (I'm running Sonar 7) and other ideas for my tunes. I'm based in L.A. (SouthBay) so local would be cool, but this could also be done remotely, albeit not live, from anywhere via exchange of .wav files, true? Stan M.

Yes Stan, wave files can work for remote collaboration. Some folks use high quality MP3s too.Wave files seem to work best for me, because there isn't any latency added when the MP3 encoder does it's thing...I usually use yousendit or something similar. As long as you share the tempo and time signature, things will sync up if everyone rips the wave right at time = 0.My collaborators and I usually leave an 8 barre blank space at the front...that way, if the keys player throws in a quick intro (for example), we all don't have to shift the entire project over to make room. So basically we all start at barre 9.This song was done remote. The guitarist is 600 miles away, he recorded his parts and sent me a zip folder with 6 tracks in it. Then drums and bass were added in my studio, and I mixed the whole thing up. I'm waiting for a "car commercial" posting to come around again http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=trueI love collaborating...but I'm not "jazz worthy" unfortunately!
Earplugs may be required for anyone over the age of cool.

Hi Stan,I come from a jazz background although I'm not doing much playing right now, I'm composing a lot, though. I play piano/keys. You can hear me on the "jazz standards" thread in the Dispatch section. If you need some keyboards on something, give me a shout. I'm pretty busy between full time day gig and full time composing but I might be able to assist if I have a minute. I'm in SF so wav files are the best way. YouSendIt and other such services are great for collaboration. Cheers!Mazz

Stan,I like to say I don't play Jazz, but I can play jazzy. If you need harmony, countermelody or counterpoint,I can help. I also do sax , bass, drums, keys and horn and string emulations on keyboards.Blues and country guitar are my specialties. Lead and bg vocals also available.

Dear jazzstan - Always looking to collaborate and to grow! We are gen-yew-ine jazz musicians, mostly mired in the bop and post-bop eras. We offer live keyboards and baritone sax as primary instruments. If you have time and interest, please drop me a line at backtalk_unlimited@yahoo.com, and I'll provide URLs where you can audition some of our offerings. (I'm reluctant to post this information here, since this ain't one of TAXI Forum's "shameless self-promotion" threads!).Hope to hear from you.-Alan (backtalkunlimited)PS: We are SONAR5 & SONAR6 users - haven't yet stepped up to SONAR7.

I'd be up for some collaboration too. I play guitar, (which sounds like you already cover nicely) and I do sing. I'm an alto. I'm currently working on a jazz CD and would be really open for input from time to time if anyone is so inclined. I use Logic 8. I have RME Fireface 800, Focusrite pre's, and use the Blue Bottle for VOX. Christi
