Return for Y091012PU
This is one I expected to be forwarded, but it was returned for "vocal performance". This was a Y/N listing and no further comment or explanation was offered. Now I'm not a singer, but I didn't think that was a punk vocalist requirement. If there's anyone out there who was forwarded for this listing, I'd like to hear about it (and hear the song) because I'm baffled.(Also, if someone could explain how I link to the song from here, I'll post the link.)

Re: Return for Y091012PU
well i didn't submit to this listing, nor do i write a lot of punk stuff, but i would have to agree that the vocals on this aren't blending in with the overall track. A lot of the desirability with music deals with perfection. An out-of-tune guitar, or a player that can't keep the beat is going to stick out on a track and hurt your chances for a forward or deal. The same holds true with a vocalist. This is where I and many others get their impression of a song. Even if you were a great vocalist, but didn't sing punk, but rather country, the voice would not stick with the backing track as a punk song, but rather a country singer with a great voice singing a punk song, and you'd lose out because of it.IMHO you should be able to find a vocalist who can make their voice blend in with your backing tracks. I'm not going to say you're a bad singer - I know I am a bad singer, and I know that I've had songs that were good, but lost out on presentation from my sub-par vocal performances. So, my suggestion would be to just find a singer that can jive with your vibe.

i totally agree with Simon here. finding the "right" vocalist for this style should be the next step, i guess.

The song has a Dead Kennedys / MinuteMen vibe. I think this is a question of definition of "punk" if you are thinking those bands are on the money if they were looking for pop punk ... wel that is all together polished animal. I would suggest dipping the vox in the mix( ala husker du) to get the gritter all at once feel and perhps mic a PA for them too... Like Ron and Rob said at the rally over and over "MORE DIRT". Hope my 2 cents helps.
