I never seem to be "quite on target" Can you guys help me?

OK, I always get good reviews on lyrics, vocals, production, etc...but the #1 reason I never get forwarded is "not on target". I always submit to Pop, and try to look for listings that mention Lady Gaga for "Break Out", "Behind the Wheel" and "A League of My Own" and Kelly Clarkson for "Hazy" and "Mess of Love". Am I just way off base here? What do you guys think...which artists should I be comparing myself to?

Here's the link to my widget. I recommend right-clicking and opening in a new window...but you already knew that ;) http://widgets.clearspring.com/o/4a37fa ... fd5354857d

Thank you!!!!

Oh..."The Wait is Over" and "Lessons Learned" are just interludes, so don't worry about listening to those...but the other 5 have all been submitted at one point or another.

Hey Jessica :) ! you have good songs there. I only listened quickly on my small laptop speakers, so i cant really tell everything in detail, and its not my style of music. im sure other folks can give you better advice than me.

some of your songs do have some R&B elements (esp. vocal production) mixed with pop which is a good thing. sound current as well, but it is not like GaGa or Kelly hit songs. Ok, you have some electro stuff like Gwen Stefani vibe buts not much like what Kelly or GaGa would do, thus the screener would say its off target. but remember, one listing is different from another, you may have submitted to high bar listings!! your voice isnt far from GaGa, she used to do piano and vocal stuff live and your piano/vox is pretty close. but current GaGa vocals has more quirk feel. GaGa stuff has really heavy Urban elements which RedOne (producer) makes, quite simple beats with some quirky parts all mixed to make it eccentric and unique all together.

I would say, Gwen Stefani stuff is kinda close to what you do.. ?
you can also submit to pop artist listings (labels/publisher), and pop songwriter listings, pop with subtle R&B elements?

Thank you for your feedback :) I love Gwen, so I'm flattered that you hear similarities between her music and mine. I will def keep that in mind when submitting in the future ;)

hey Jessica - just a suggestion - next time you plan to submit, why not post the listing, the lyrics, and a link to your song, in Peer to Peer & ask us if we think you are on target for that listing, before you submit?

I personally can't comment on whether you are on target, since I am not familiar with these a la's.

nice work tho!!

Hey Jessica. Can't say how close you are to Lady GaGa, and listening to your tunes I can honestly say I'm not the one to advise in terms of specific artists. However, the music is extremely well put together, sounds polished, pro, melodic and sexy - all in all, very listenable to a rock guy like meself. Based on my own experiences, and from what I've heard others say, it's all about the correct pitching (nope, not your vox!). The listing requirements are very specific, despite sometimes suggesting there is a range. This is absolutely more important than the quality of song or production - of course, these have to be top notch, too. Hopefully someone will be able to tell you who your closest soundalikes are, maybe look for advice from musicians you really know and trust, and who will be honest with you.
