Martin and Travelling Ed,I really appreciated your latest posts. I envy Martin big time for the great MTV story (Hey I want that address as well ) but it's also sort of consolating reading that more or less everyone have the same problems.I'm now trying to give computer-music lessons, that's for the bills-paying part of the equation, and I keep on submitting songs to TAXI for the "rock-star" part.Martin, since you're from Switzerland you maybe know the band Gotthard, which I used to play keyboards for; that was until two years ago, when I decided to try and write full time!Have a nice day everyone,Paolo

I'm gonna write you a short email;)Quote:Ed:Well, if all it takes to get placements is to send them to your co-writer who ignores them, send me her address and I can send her lots of songs to ignore. I think you are understating what it takes to get a placement. There is a missing step somehwhere. Or do the MTV people stiop by her house regularly?Shure I know what it takes to get placements - without constant effort it wouldn't have happened. All I tried to say is that I didn't search exactly such a placement, it just kind of "happened" (of course I constantly sent out my stuff and it seems to be not so bad quality since it's used;))This one co-writer founded a library, that's why she placed it.

Paolo, I can definitely relate. I've been composing for about 25-30 years, but I never had the courage to forward anything until this past year, when I joined TAXI. I've been fortunate in that my first two submissions were forwarded (Yay! ). It cost me about $50 out of pocket, since I submitted them to several different req's that they "seemed" to fit - and finally they did. Like you I expected to hear from someone almost immediately...hmmm...nothing yet. But then, its only been about 3 months. In the meantime, I'm doing some "shameless self-promotion" on BroadJam, MySpace and SoundClick. All of this is indeed time-consuming and tedious...but "nothing ventured, nothing gained". Like you, I gave up a fairly lucrative gig playing with a very popular group in the Tri-State area (NJ/NY/PA) in order to devote more time to "composing". Unlike you, I did not give up my "day job" (I'm a software engineer for a well-known financial institution). Will my sacrifice pay dividends? Only time will tell. I'm putting together my first CD, and this has been a life-long dream of mine...I'm now 50. I've long since given up the notion of getting "discovered"...now I'd just like to get a fair ROI for my time and effort. If that doesn't happen, at least I'll have a decent CD that I can give to my friends and family...lo que sea. In case you're wondering, I play Latin Jazz and Salsa. My music reflects my influences (Sergio Mendes, Eddie Palmieri, Peruchin and Kenny Barron), and is essentially Latin Jazz piano. You can hear my tunes at www.myspace.com/frankvillafane orwww.broadjam.com/frankvillafane orwww.soundclick.com/frankvillafanePlease listen and let me know your thoughts. For the record, I'd like to hear some of your submissions. Please forward. Finally, don't give up...and good luck.Frank
