Re: I want to own a strat..need specifics
@ Keith: Yup, Castleton GC, and no, I hardly ever break strings, but I always carry a backup for shows longer than forty minutes. @ Paul: Make sure you ask them about the Eric Johnson model; I also think you should check out the Vox AC30 Custom Classic-the controls are a little weird and funky, but there's a bunch of sounds in that one I think you'll like!
Yeah, buying a $200 guitar wouldn't make sense for a lot of people and a lot of guitars, but Fender parts are cheap and widely available, I do my own setups and my bassist happens to also be one of the world's top bass builders. I have lots of guitars, so a single axe doesn't have to give me everything I need. I'm very comfortable with the idea of modifications, since I don't have much invested, heh. (I'll at least replace the crappy plastic jack plate with a nice steel one; since I bought it mainly for studio use, the string-through mod can wait) I'll post samples of the sound a bit later....

Great sound.
I didn't know you could put all those added features at once. I only use one, such as delay?
Is that you playing?

eeoo
yeah, why is it that the strings on new guitars seem to be the worst ever.
you would think for the money they would put a half decent set on just to sell the guitar?

Your right! It doesn't make any sense from the perspective of a consumer or musician. The strings are for keeping the neck taunt during shipping. Who knows what environments the guitar passes through on its way to the store, especially if it comes from across the pond which nearly all of them do in this day n age. When you consider the cost of wages, insurance, workman's comp and a whole lot of other things that I probably don't even know about, for someone to put a good set of strings on (define a good set of strings), its probably WAY cheaper to say, "If you'll buy the guitar, we'll throw in a set of strings and YOU can change em".
Keith ( a.k.a. Curly Bones Jackson )heehee!

I hear the voice of God in a bending guitar string!

Re Strings: I've always been a Ernie Ball Super Slinky guy. Why? Because they're, er, slinky! They bend better, in a slinky way!
My gauge of choice are the Hybrids. 9-11-16, and then thicker on the bottom. Great strings. And after I got enough amplification power and experience, I RARELY break a string anymore. --- Back when I was in a house band in a big club in Michigan, I was breaking strings all the time. Just playing too hard, because I wasn't letting the amp do the work. Some semi-famous recording artist came into town with his band, and we opened for them. I noticed the guitarist played a Strat similar to mine, so after their first set, I asked him about breaking strings. His answer was that he would cut off pieces of stereo speaker wire casings, and thread them onto the strings when he put on a new set. Of course, not over the bridge, but down where the strings break off. I tried it, and it worked like a charm! Great idea, but if you're breaking strings a lot, back off dude! And get a backup guitar, tuned up and ready to go if you're doing live gigs. There's nothing like crashing a set's momentum like stopping and putting on a new string!

@ Paul: Yeah, that was me, and the voiceover, too. The amp and effects are modeled in the POD X3Live: Tweed Bassman, 4X10 cab, SM57, Chandler Tube Driver (pre) , analog delay, rich chamber reverb, Leslie sim, LA2A compressor (post) . (Gauge ECM87 on the slightly sloppy voiceover, heh)
@ All: Interestingly, The Squier Tele had a premium set of D'addarios on-I think Guitar Center restrings every guitar in the store with 'em. (I'm guessing they get a nice bulk rate on 'em, too)

Went back and listened again.
Really cool to hear someone's voice that you digitally chat with all the time.
You could be a radio announcer. The effects are definitely noticeable in the demo.
I would be happy with that sound. Of course, I always pay more than I need to.
Next question. If know you can play well, why haven't I been seeing any new stuff from you?
I looked in Craig's list in the Minneapolis area. There are many squires listed.
Bought a new tom tom last night. ($119)(first one) I have programed it to go to the GC's without having to keep glancing at my mapquest directions. No excuses now.
