Paul,

Make sure you don't stop at Hayward and ice fish for that big Muskie!

Update

We are having a consversation over lunch and my son-in-law asked me "so, what are you going to do tomorrow?"

I told him I was going to the GC strat shopping.

He said " I bought one in 2001 , played it a couple of times and just put it back in the case" "Why don't you just take it, I will never play it" I said you've got to be s---ing me.

Sure enough we dusted off the case, opened it and there was a red strat that said American Standard Strat made in The USA..

Sales slip was inside for $850 from the Guitar center. This was Thursday afternoon.

Friday (today)I went to the guitar center and tried a bunch of different amps and combinations, but didn't take any home.

I liked one that was called an Egnatar. It was a tube amp with a great sound.

The only problem is that it had no direct out in the back to go to my board. I would have to mic it.

I got burned out and had to hang it up for the day.

I did buy a new mic for that today(forgot the name) plus a tamborine and a book on mixing.

Might go back tomorrow;) This free guitar blew me out of my game plan.

Will supply pics when I get home. Might put in new pickups etc

Paul

There ya go! That's called "SERENDIPITY!" Like when I got my '63 Strat for $200!

I'll have to look up the amp you described. --- Great shopping, Paul, and "walking away!"

Egnater Rebel 20? That's a real nice one, a bit more versatile than the Vox Night Train. I think there's also a thirty watt version with enough headroom to hang with a fairly loud drummer. Congrats on the non-purchase. A suggestion? Check out Kinman pickups, they supply completely finished pickguard assemblies that pop right in your Strat and are virtually noiseless.

Yes it was the Egnater Rebel 20. Ugliest amp I have ever seen. Looked like it came out of the mid fifties.

He really presses this one because it had only one channnel. I don't know why that was such a big deal.

It all goes back to if you don't know your stuff, you buy on one person's recomendations.

I think the 30 model had the direct out in the back though. Around $800.

I might just go home and try the stat through my line 6 amp first. Really did like the sound of that tube amp though.

I googled strat pickups last night and much was said about those Kinman pickups. So many different ones. Will have to get

some help in the selection.

I was the oldest guy in the store for sure. One youngster said "way to go pops" when I played the into to crazy train:)

So, Paul, mic the Egnater with a Shure 57 or something else and forgettabout the damn direct out! The interaction with the amp and the speaker makes a big difference! --- Cripes, you live in da nort woods, so crank that baby up and mic it! That's half of the fun! Dogs will run for the woods, deer won't eat the bark off of your trees, no more squirells on your bird feeder etc.

Nah! Birds LOVE music! And cats do, also. Our oldest cat, "Snagglepuss," really likes rock music. She'll sleep by the speakers when I'm playing Neil Young's "Rockin' In The Free World," and is never happier! --- Now, of course, birds don't like cats for obvious reasons. LOL!
