I think that 'no communication is communication' holds a certain amount of truth, but it's probably not true for everyone that reads it.

Lot's of people will listen, but will not make a grand statement on if they do or do not like the song.

Not everyone has the talent to state in the proper phrasing(s) what is right or wrong with the song, how it can be made better, what can be done to improve the song, their writing procedure/technique, how to categorize their material.

Even when I make a personal critique, there will be some things I may listen to in stride. If someone wants to make a career move with their material (i.e. MAKE MONEY , or they are serious about making good music, then they have to be prepared to take advise and criticism. If it sounds too much like something that has been already done, I just state COPYRIGHT, COPYRIGHT .

Some will be nice, some won't.

 And there been some situations where the music was so bad, even the band(s) snubbed it (The Police reunion tour rings a very loud bell for this)  :? ;) .

Everyone can be a critic, just not in a phrasing form.

BTW - since this topic is about feedback - my newsletter this month is about treating "failure" as feedback and I'll be creating a new Toolbox Teleclass for my Artist's EDGE Membership called "How to Use Feedback and Criticism Constructively"

You can get the newsletter in your mailbox by signing up on the main website or check the http://artists-edge.com/articles page where it will be posted after it's mailed out.

And you can participate in the Toolbox Teleclass live, or download it later by joining the Membership http://artists-edge.com/join

Also - I'm writing a series of blog posts about the lessons you can learn from American Idol - and much of that is taken from the judge's feedback and the contestant's responses to the feedback. http://artists-edge.com/blog

Warm regards,
Debra
